Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Gibbs.
Hi Timothy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Timothy Gibbs. I began my professional life as an actor in television and film, a career that has spanned 44 years and counting.
My experiences in the entertainment business, wherein aesthetics are crucial, led me to my primary pursuit today as a purveyor of collectible furnishings, objects, and art.
After decades of collecting for myself, I, along with my wife Patricia, opened our first antique shop in 2015. Today, ARCHAIC MODERN operates two locations and enjoys a robust online presence.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I cannot broach the subject of my own journey without including my wife’s journey and those of our children. We have had our fair share of obstacles—and we will again.
Some self-inflicted, some unexpected. The common thread is that we’ve so far overcome our challenges by meeting them as a team and putting our union and our family first.
Business accomplishments are terrific, but I’m nothing without my family.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Now, I’m a full-time antique dealer and occasional actor. It was, once, the other way around. I like myself and my life better like this.
To a few, I might be known for a handful of films and TV shows. Today, I’m better known as a co-owner of the antique and custom furniture store Archaic Modern.
I’m most proud of my wife, artist Patricia P. Abreu and our sons.
I’m not sure I should answer “What sets me apart…” I prefer to think about what brings us together in spite of our differences. And I’m not being coy, I’m serious. You know, one of the great things about the business of furnishing and decorating people’s homes is that it’s intimate.
You get to know your clients, their likes and dislikes—what “sings” to them. When Patri and I deliver just the right statement to a home, or just the right conversation piece, in a way we’re playing a role in a client’s wellness, their comfort.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Live in the here and now. BE PRESENT. Find moments every day, as many as you can stack, wherein you are genuinely present.
