Life & Work with Ross Barnett of Two Fly Guys Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ross Barnett. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Two Fly Guys Media began much like many other small businesses – with an idea and a little bit of passion. While working in the restaurant industry in 2017, Ross approached Adam, one of the managers, and revealed his desire to learn the ins and outs of video production. Upon agreeing, they began working on smaller video productions around Georgia. Once these projects started to take off, Two Fly Guys Media was born. Slowly, this transformed into larger business projects and later transitioned into getting their feet wet in the wedding industry.

It did not take long before the wedding side began to flourish and become the heartbeat of the company. Now, almost six years later, Two Fly Guys Media has won The Knot’s “Best of Wedding” award for three consecutive years, was recently named as one of the top 10 wedding videographers to book in the Savannah region, and the recipient of Wedding Wire’s Couple’s Choice Award.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Despite experiencing the typical growing pains of starting a business, it has been a surprisingly smooth road and we are very grateful for this. However, one of the biggest areas we have had to overcome is scaling the business. As a company built off of our creative vision, training new videographers and editors on our style and quality has been difficult at times.

Despite this, we have been able to overcome this obstacle by hiring some of the best videographers and editors in the business. We are proud of the growth our team has experienced and are excited for the projected growth to come!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Two Fly Guys Media is a video production company that specializes in commercial and wedding videography.

For the wedding side, we focus our efforts on filming and producing elegant, creative wedding videos. Our goal is to capture all the finer details and the special moments that make every wedding unique. Not only do we film the full wedding ceremony and record high-quality audio, but we also create an artistic 8-10 minute highlight film to showcase all the significant moments of the big day. From the bridal party getting ready and exchanging vows/rings, to the first dance and send-off, we’re there for it all.

For the commercial side of Two Fly Guys Media, we capture the essence of the business at hand. We strive to deliver a video tailored to the client’s goals that further enhances their brand and overall persona. For some, this looks like promoting a grand opening event. For others, this might mean a muli-video segment that educates their audience or employees on the latest and greatest offerings. Regardless, we’re prepared to create videos that are unique and catered to fit your brand. We’re pioneers in marketing — we’re always staying ahead of the game with social media trends to make sure your business reaches more potential customers.

Over the years, our clients and couples have described our work as vibrant, captivating, stunning, and creative. After being in the industry for five years, our team is proud to have maintained our streak of five-star reviews. As a whole, one of the things we are most proud of is consistently delivering a product that each team member is proud of. Despite the hustle of life, we have never wavered from the quality that we have built our name around.

There are many aspects that set us apart from other videography companies. One of the easiest things to pinpoint is that we are not your typical content creators. From our name to our business and marketing strategies, we are a close team of individuals who pride ourselves on staying up to date with the latest trends in an industry that is consistently evolving.

An additional aspect that is not standard in this industry is that we do not charge hourly rates. Our sole priority is to provide the best quality content that exceeds our client’s goals and expectations. Whether this takes two hours or two days, we are ready to tackle any approach that comes our way.

Another thing we do a little differently is client relationships. Our goal is to genuinely get to know our clients so we can clearly see and advocate for their vision. We strive to build lasting relationships with our clients that extends beyond the completion of the video.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Post-COVID-19, the wedding industry has experienced a boom. With events being postponed for a little over a year, celebrations are larger than ever. However, it is only a matter of time before things begin to decline. With inflation, people’s expendable income is declining. While the forecast of the wedding industry in the next 5-10 years is unpredictable, it has been just that for so long.

A common trend we expect to see continue is couples going against the grain and breaking the traditions that have existed in the wedding industry for decades. One of the most common examples of this is the idea that the bride stays hidden from her groom until the ceremony. Now, we find that first looks are more common than not. Additionally, in modern weddings, we are seeing the rise of “bridesmen” and “grooms women.” Instead of playing on tradition with ladies on one side and gentlemen on the other, members of the bridal party have begun to stand on the side of the person they are closest to. A final example of this is the decline of the bouquet and garter toss. While still present, we expect that this trend will continue to fall off. With all of this being said, couples are now trying to reinvent the wheel and break the mundane traditions seen over the years. We expect that this will continue to happen in the years to come as people bring their own creative twist to the wedding scene.

In terms of where we see Two Fly Guys Media going over the next 5-10 years, we have big dreams. While we desire to remain a close nit group of videographers and creatives, we have positioned the company in such a way that we are able to reach locations across the southeastern United States and beyond. In the coming years, we hope to grow to a team of 5-7 full-time staff members that travel to meet our couples and clients across the globe. Although our dreams are big, our team remains (and will remain) small. This concept alone gives us the ability to cater to our clients in the best way possible, enjoy weekly Facetime meetings, collaborate on open projects, and take vacations as a team.
