Life & Work with Rashounae Paulk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rashounae Paulk.

Hi Rashounae, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started doing nails at 9 years old. It was always an interest of mine for as long as I can remember. I would always paint my nails, family members’ nails, friends, church members… basically anyone who would allow me to practice on them. I started working in a nail salon at age 17 and built a steady clientele.

Being from a small town I’ve always dreamed big, and wanted more for myself so I moved to a bigger city and further pursued my passion. I got licensed and began to grow in the nail industry. In 2019 I moved to Charlotte, NC where I currently live, and basically took over the entire city lol I now have my educator’s license and travel around the world teaching aspiring nail techs how to “Slay Like Nae”.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been smooth sailing. I’ve faced many challenges since the start of my business and still do. I’ve learned as you grow and go to different heights, it never gets easier. You just learn and adjust to whatever comes next. There were many times when I fell broke because I spent all of my earnings investing in my business… barely had enough to feed myself, but God gave me a vision so that’s what kept me motivated and going!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a self-taught nail tech and educator! I specialize in nail care and nail art. I am widely known for my extremely neat work and intricate designs. I’m also well known for my ability to teach people with absolutely no experience with nails, how to do nails in a matter of hours!

I’m most proud of how far I’ve made it in this industry despite my age, race, and background. I feel that my insane drive and work ethic are what sets me apart from others. I have created multiple streams of income just by doing what I love! I believe that nothing is off-limits to me. If I can dream it, I can achieve it!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I honestly don’t believe in luck. I believe in God’s divine timing. I believe that everything that has happened in my life and career is all in God’s perfect timing.
