Life & Work with Kimi Cole

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimi Cole.

Hi Kimi, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Half-Pint was created after the birth of my daughter, Hannah, 18 years ago. I specialized in handmade baby blankets and mommy and me aprons! I spent the last 18 years selling at our historic Charleston City Market and loved it! I am now retired from the market. After the birth of my son, Reef (8), I found myself painting again as a way to find balance as a single mother of two. I’ve always had a passion for Our Lord and our beautiful Lowcountry. Half-Pint has now evolved into my original works that I now print on pillows, towels, cards, etc. I’ve also been blessed to create some beautiful custom pieces for family’s homes. I love finding something old and giving it a new purpose… art can be anything! I’m also having so much fun using old hymns and giving them new purpose and sharing my passion! I have some fun new things coming this year and some announcements coming very soon that I’m so excited and honored to be a part of, so follow along on Instagram @halfpint.designs

Many blessings,

Kimi Cole

Artist

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Business is not always smooth, but I’m always learning and growing! Besides creating and making everything myself it’s always a struggle to find balance! An artists brain never ever stops! I found myself in 2007 growing and selling nationwide, I took a deep breathe and decided bigger isn’t better…. Stay small and enjoy the ride!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m always inspired by our Lowcountry and specialize in Lowcountry art. I would say mine is different in that I paint once, take a high-quality picture and use software to convert it to be able to print it… one at time. I’m proud of the fact that people want to display my art in my pillows and towels and things in their home. If you run into me at one of my locations, I always ask if my work makes them happy… every time… YES!!! A lot of my work is watercolors and I’m able to achieve that watercolor look onto a piece of fabric… It’s actually pretty cool! I’m very proud of the fact I can offer a reasonable price on usable art!

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My parents and children are my biggest cheerleaders! As the kids get older l, they see how hard I work and also see the joy it brings to so many others. Hannah, my daughter, is now a huge part of my business, merchandising stores and helping with anything I ask! My parents jump in anytime I need as well, from flipping pillows to base painting when I’m up to my eyeballs lol I have to say I have so many other local artists and business people that have truly been great for advice or bounce ideas off of! I’m truly blessed to be in such an area with amazing artists and we all support each other!
