Life & Work with Kesha Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kesha Williams.

Hi Kesha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a young black woman, my dream is to always have my own business. When I worked a job, I would always do my best to be on top. However, I saw that I was not appreciated, and what I mean was that I was not valued.

So, I would go home to my awesome husband and complain daily, he got tired of me complaining to him he told me to leave the job. And I wouldn’t because I have always been a loyal person in anything I have done and in any relationship that I have had I have always been loyal.

So, on December 19, 2018, at 9:00 am I went in and wrote my supervisor a letter and I clocked out. On that day my whole life started to change I start thinking like a business owner. I went to StartMe with the Northside Development Group which was led by Lakesha Whinter.

I gain so much knowledge about owning my own business. I then went to work at a childcare center Growing Mines which is directed by Apostle Mia Gentry. She allowed me to come in and get all I needed to open up my own childcare center. I am so grateful for her in that season of my life that I need someone to show me about the business.

So, my realtor which was my awesome husband found the building, and he alone placed me in the building and told me “Key (that’s what he calls me) work your vision. I have been open for 2 years and 8 months with well over 60 pulse kids on a daily basis with 11 employees. I do after-school pick-up at 8 different schools during the school year. My plans are to open a 5K center in 2023.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has not been a walk in the park. But it has been a learning experience for me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What sets me apart from the rest is that I give kids the chance to have a different program outside the center than older kids do. I had the first childcare center prom in 2022. It was kids pulling up in limos and all types of different cars and they had on ball gowns and the little boys had on tuxes. My plan is to have a bigger one in 2023.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
At this time, I don’t know because my dreams are so big and so far from just being regular. I know that someday I will open up my own elementary school.

This story has inspired me to dream bigger, no matter what age. K. Williams has brought a much needed child care to the area of Spartanburg. Most daycares are in the county of Spartanburg or off a hwy of some sort. However, Little Me is in the heart of Spartanburg. Parents are able to drop their children off, on the way to their jobs. Bravo ! K. Williams we love you !

This is the best daycare in Spartanburg. Both of my grandkids have learned so much at Little ME Childcare. Great owner and staff.
