Life & Work with Kari Dale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kari Dale.

Hi Kari, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
About two years ago, I was preparing for the end of my Army career, looking for a hobby and possible future career path. I decided to pick up a camera and take a small class in photography.

I absolutely loved it and started offering small photoshoots to my friends and family. Fast-forward to now and not only am I still doing photoshoots for family and friends, but I have a website where potential clients who don’t know me can learn more about me, view my work, and book a session.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t all been smooth sailing. Photography isn’t necessarily about simply pointing a camera and pressing the shutter button. It’s complicated and nuanced so it has taken me some time to hone my vision and skill.

I’ve had to learn from mistakes, some small and some not so small. Aside from learning the camera, there is also learning the editing software and that is a rocky road all on its own. I learn new things every day.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a natural light photographer specializing in outdoor pet and portrait photography in South Carolina.

I strive to provide my clients with fun, laid-back sessions that result in frozen moments in time they can look back on and cherish forever. Each photo session is different and I always look forward to the satisfaction of knowing my client loves their final pictures.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
There’s no shame in asking questions. There’s almost always someone who has done what you’re trying to do so reaching out and asking for pointers can really be helpful.

Don’t be discouraged if for some reason someone doesn’t want to help you out. Just move on and ask someone else. The most important thing is to never give up on your goals. Perseverance is key when you’re starting any new journey.
