Life & Work with Kacie Faulling Myers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kacie Faulling Myers.

Hi Kacie , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My first job when I was 15 was at Stella Nova which is a very well-known spa/salon here in Charleston. I worked there for 3 years and completely fell in love with the beauty industry. Both of my parents worked for themselves so I knew I wanted to be self-employed as well.

I went to the College of Charleston and was the first person in my family on either side to graduate with a four-year degree. A month after graduating from CofC, I enrolled in Paul Mitchell as one of the first graduating classes from the school. It was during that time and shadowing various salons that I realized bridal work was my passion. Six months following graduation from Paul Mitchell, I opened Lashes and Lace as a traveling bridal hair and makeup company. Nine years later, the rest is history! I remember being so scared to open my little one-room studio and now have my dream location on Broad Street.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I think owning any business is going to have its struggles but it’s also one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. I always joke and say I work 90 hours a week to avoid working a 40 hour work week but it’s totally true! I genuinely love what I do, love my brides, and love my team of stylists. As a business owner, part of your job is knowing how to tackle the stressors that are thrown at you. It keeps things interesting and keeps you growing and learning. Some days are tough but overall, I love being able to lead my team and being able to provide a successful career for them. I also love being able to be such an important part of our bride’s most special day!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
L&L specializes in the bridal airbrush makeup application and wedding day hairstyles. Unlike other salons, we solely focus on bridal work and are constantly educating ourselves to be the top in our field. Our team does over 600 weddings per year (fun fact: there are over 120 weddings per weekend in Charleston alone during wedding season)! We travel on-site to brides and use only the highest quality professional products and tools. Since we have such a large team, we are able to accommodate groups of all sizes. We also have our own luxury studio in downtown Charleston where we hold trial runs, do lash extensions, spray tans, and house the cutest little bridal boutique!

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
So many things! First, of course, is my family & husband, Quent! We have a 3-year-old little girl, Bella Emerson, and an 8-month-old, Tucker Wentworth. Everything I do is for them and I make sure to work extremely hard so they can have the best life imaginable. They have also taught me the importance of a work-life balance which I didn’t have before. It’s a beautiful thing watching them grow up and being able to delegate tasks in my business to be a full-time mommy as well as a business owner.

My team of stylists and my company also make me incredibly proud and happy! A lot of the stylists on my team have been with me for years and it’s been incredible and rewarding to see their growth. It’s a humbling feeling having a company that provides a living for so many talented individuals. They are each so unique, hard-working, and dedicated to their craft. It’s really inspiring to see their professionalism and devotion to our team and their brides. I feel very lucky to have such a great group of makeup artists and hairstylists representing Lashes and Lace.
