Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Gabrielle.
Hi Jessica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started my musical journey in middle school. My best friend and I at the time used to mock singing groups we idolized, such as Destiny Child or The Cheetah Girls. We shared the same interests, so we started performing together at our school’s Talent shows. That’s when I started writing my music as well. We moved to Sicily, Italy, and there I sang in Church and picked up my dancing again later in high school. In my 12th grade year, I assembled a dance team to perform for Navy sailors. Moving around broadens my views on music and how I connect with people of all races and colors. I was exposed to different cultures and genres. Today, I feel confident as an R&B singer because of my experiences and background, which made me a stronger writer.
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Truthfully, it has not been a smooth road, and to be even more honest. I don’t want everything to be challenging because nothing rushed won’t last. Things take time to nourish and develop. Struggles along the way could be life getting overwhelming, and that could be with work or outside of that. They are unable to produce music because I may have writer’s block. When putting together a project, only some things will go as planned. I need help figuring out how to gain my audience, keep their attention, and maintain consistency. Another challenge is that most people expect you to profit from your music when it is different. You have to make yourself a brand to receive revenue. Social media is a challenge, but it’s all about how you use it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, tell us more about your work next.
I am an unapologetic singer-songwriter and dancer. I am known for my voice and my dance moves. I am most proud that I took a chance on myself. I often remind myself to chase my goals and dreams so my daughter can do the same. We only lose when we don’t try, and music is something I won’t allow anyone to tell me I can’t do it. I love singing! It’s the gift that keeps on giving. What sets me apart from others is my energy. I’m a sweetheart to everyone, and I love speaking positivity over myself and others, and people pick up on that.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I expect the 90’s/ early 2000’s2000s to make a comeback. That was when people made music that you could play for a lifetime; it was meaningful. The styles back then were more free-spirited; I expect to see long-gravity Artists and hope to see Music Labels appreciate their Artists more.
