Life & Work with Ishmael Auguiste of North Charleston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ishmael Auguiste.

Hi Ishmael, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I realized from a young age I was always a photogenic person; as I got older, I took a liking to photography, starting with taking photos of myself, people, and places. I started to take self-portraits of myself and eventually got recognized by photographers and a few model agencies. Shortly after, I started modeling, doing catwalks and photoshoots for local and international fashion brands. I decided to invest in it and purchased my first camera in 2019.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it wasn’t easy; being disciplined and keeping your mind and body in shape was challenging, and waiting for your next casting wasn’t easy. You weren’t guaranteed a spot until you were chosen. On my journey, I realized being my size was a problem from time to time when it came to fittings, and sometimes payment was an issue.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a model and photographer, and I like creating and making my ideas a reality. As a photographer, I specialize in portrait and fashion photography, and as a model, I specialize in swimwear and high fashion. I am proud of being given the opportunity of modeling for Burberry. What sets me apart from others is my mindset.

What makes you happy?
Ice baths and swimming makes me happy there’s something about being surrounded by a body of water that gets me excited.
