Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina DeMatteis.
Gina DeMatteis
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
Ever since I can recall, I’ve thought everyone saw the world the same as I did. In my lifetime thus far, including my career as an artist, I have learned this is untrue. Some see perfection in material things, meticulously crafted to please the eye. I find it in the existence of things just as they are: the whisper of a breeze, wildflowers, humans caught off guard. True beauty is realized in imperfection, the uncontrollable. WHISP captures a small piece of nature’s imperfect beauty, reminding us of our world’s natural wonders. Through my creations, I urge people to take a moment to let go, slow down, and take note of the small miracles happening around them daily.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Regardless of the inevitable obstacle here and there, I choose to look at WHISP as something I get to do every day. Though it requires 24/7 attention, it’s a privilege to own your own business! My background as a creative director and understanding of marketing gave me a solid foundation and I am fortunate to have supportive friends, family, and three daughters in varying creative fields who always have my back. My right arm is my partner, Banks, who shares my love for the outdoors and helps me grow and dry my wildflowers. Plus, smooth roads lack the thrill, don’t you think?
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am fully focused on how important “Getting in the Flow” is and the benefits it has on your nervous system— flowers can chase away anxieties, worries and blues, and ease depression, troubled thoughts, and agitation. They induce a more positive outlook on life, boosting energy and happiness. My flower hammering workshops let you take a break from your daily struggles, frustrations, and the circus constantly putting on a show inside your mind. Flower Power Hammering Workshops are always posted on my social media and I welcome any private parties or events! I also currently have a booth at Village Emporium in Mount Pleasant that houses additional artwork of mine and some vintage treasures. Something I want to be sure all who come across WHISP know is that I am most proud of my creative eye and am determined to include others in what I, a vintage girl living in a modern world, see.

Are any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I love old bookshops and flea markets, especially in France. Traveling and observing other’s lifestyles and environments is very inspiring. My most successful decisions and creative ideas happen outdoors while exercising, breathing in fresh air, and just letting my mind wander.
