Today we’d like to introduce you to Georgia Belk.
Hi Georgia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We are Georgia and Micah, South Carolina-based and travel wedding photographers and videographers, who love to travel and capture love in its truest and most genuine form.
Our story begins back in 2019 in Charlotte, NC. Georgia had been doing photography for a few years by capturing her friend’s graduation photos and second shooting with another photographer in the wedding industry. When Georgia and Micah met, Georgia brought Micah along to a shoot and Micah decided to buy a drone on a whim. That whim ended up being one of the best decisions and a catalyst for starting our business.
A few weeks later after that shoot, we got asked to capture a friend’s wedding in 2020 when COVID made the bride’s wedding plans a little different than she expected. She initially wanted to get married in the Florida Keys, but due to restrictions, she ended up having her wedding in her family’s backyard in North Carolina. We asked the bride if Micah could shoot a wedding video for her to see if it would be something we could do and something we would want to pursue. She was thrilled with the idea and before we knew it, we were shooting our very first wedding together as a photo and video team. The wedding couldn’t have been any better with friends and family gathering together, eating burgers, drinking beer, and simply enjoying each other’s company under a clear summer night.
After sharing that wedding on social media, we booked three more weddings that year and we decided that we wanted to make things official. We decided to partner together and create G&M Visions, LLC to express our love for people and live out our dreams by capturing love and life in a genuine form. We strive to give our clients a product that best represents who they are because we value their uniqueness and individuality. We want to inspire others to dream big and go after their goals through our work and our love and we believe that God has given us a vision and has provided us with the gift of creativity to make this dream a reality!
We now live in Charleston, SC together pursuing weddings in the low country and worldwide! We have been able to travel to Texas, Las Vegas, California, Utah, and all over the east coast for weddings and shoots and we are so excited to see where this next year will take us!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is never a smooth road as there are many obstacles and challenges to face along the way. The security of a 9-5 job is lacking as you only have you and your business partner to bet on, but we wouldn’t trade entrepreneurship for anything.
When we first started our business, we didn’t know much on how to manage taxes, how to properly book clients, how to provide a great experience for our clients, the importance of marketing, and so on. However, like any business, you learn from your mistakes and become better after each one.
After a few months into business, we took online courses about anything and everything related to our business to become better at what we do and we got really good, really fast. We were determined to become better as fast as we could because we knew the potential we had.
We are still growing and learning to this day and we will always push ourselves to be better and that is the beauty of entrepreneurship. It gives us the freedom to pursue something we love and it helps shape and molds us into ambitious and hardworking individuals who get to live life to the fullest.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in wedding photography and videography, as well as lifestyle and branding sessions for small businesses.
Wedding photography and videography has become a passion for us because it gives us the opportunity to meet and work alongside amazing individuals and be part of a person’s most special day of their lives. We have been able to witness love in its purest form with our couples and we get to capture some of the sweetest and most intimate moments between people and that’s a gift we will always be grateful for.
We also love capturing lifestyle sessions, such as families and small businesses to help them with their branding and marketing. We love being able to do family sessions because we love kids and being able to capture families in a fun and genuine way. We also love working with small businesses because it gives us the opportunity to meet other like-minded individuals and build a community of entrepreneurs.
We believe we are set apart because of the experience we offer to our couples and individuals we work with. We have an infectious personality as a couple that makes people feel comfortable and valued. We are able to bring out the best in our clients by providing prompts and cues to facilitate reactions and moments in their truest form. We style our sessions to give people the freedom to be themselves and to share their stories with us.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
We absolutely love Charleston and it has been such a nice change from Charlotte. We live on a little part of the city called Daniel Island and we love the slowness it brings to life.
Living on Daniel Island has given us time to slow down and appreciate life a little more and we have met some of the best people here. We are always welcomed with a smile when going for a walk and we are encouraged to get outside daily to enjoy the scenery and sunshine.
We have also loved seeing the alligators that live in the ponds on the island. At first, we were so scared of them as we had never seen them before, but now we have learned to appreciate them from a distance and we always love when we see one sunbathing on the bank.
We truly do not have any dislikes about the city, but if we had to say some, it would be the bugs! The bugs are on another level down here and it’s something we will have to get used to as the warmer weather has returned!
