Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlotte Berger.
Charlotte, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After around a decade in at travel and culinary PR agencies in CHS, I founded CharlotteBergerPR during what was arguably the toughest time in the restaurant industry.
I launched my business in May 2020, focusing on the needs of restaurants and nonprofits as they navigated the struggles with surviving COVID-19.
A year and a half later, and my team has now grown to a staff of eight, servicing two dozen clients located in Charleston, Asheville, Greenville, and other parts of the Southeast.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The business has been booming at a rate I couldn’t have imagined, but it hasn’t been without hard work and sacrifice. Every new client, new employee, and new campaign comes with its own ups and downs, but perseverance and grit have led our team through all obstacles that have come our way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve worked with clients ranging from Brightline, America’s first intercity passenger train, and American Queen Steamboat Company to the Charleston CVB and Hall Management Group. I worked my way up from Account Coordinator to Account Director before deciding to venture out on her own, not to reinvent the wheel but rather because I had a different business model and style of service in mind.
While anyone can start a marketing agency, not every marketing agency should be started. Before launching CharlotteBergerPR, I wanted to make sure that what I would be providing would be distinctly different from what was already available. By focusing on my close connections with local press, video in the social media content creation space, and the incredible power of influencer marketing through my culinary social media group @tastemakerschs, all while charging ⅓ to ½ the cost of her competitors, our team has been able to bring top-notch results (and value) to our clients.
TasteMakersCHS is Charleston’s only culinary influencer group, which connects local influencers, restaurants, and nonprofits together under one umbrella. To date, her 65+ events have raised over $24k for 18 local charities and counting, all while bringing critical exposure to both restaurants and nonprofits.
What matters most to you?
What matters to me most: providing top-notch work to restaurants, culinary CPGS, and nonprofits for a price they can afford, while at the same time providing my team with a collaborative, encouraging, and positive work environment that allows them to flourish and have careers they genuinely love. Giving back to a city that has given so much to me if of the utmost importance, so nonprofit work will remain at the top of my priority list!
