Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy DeVito.
Hi Amy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started as a wedding planner and designer in New York almost 16 years ago; in 2016, we decided to leave New York and relocate to Charleston, South Carolina. It was the best move we ever made, both personally and professionally. The wedding market here is unlike any other US city, and I knew I could succeed. To get my bearings and learn as much as possible, when we arrived, I started reaching out to local planners to see if I could join their team as a freelancer. In doing this, I absorbed as much information as possible and made fantastic connections along the way. When COVID hit and the wedding industry essentially shut down here, I took advantage of that time to think about what starting up my own company again could look like here. I knew I was ready, and when things opened back up, so did Buttercup Events.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a smooth road. Because I had worked so hard to learn everything about the market here, I knew I was ready once I stepped back into it as a business owner. I have made wonderful connections with venues and vendors here and have proven that I can handle what this business will relentlessly throw at you. With my team in place and my lead planner Ashley on board, we hit the ground running and have not stopped since!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The design end of a wedding is the most fun and rewarding part of the process. We strive to approach each new wedding with fresh eyes and ideas while also working off the base knowledge of what that client and venue need from a logistical standpoint. If you were to look at all of the weddings I have ever designed and executed, you would never know that I did them all. I want every wedding to reflect that client’s style, unlike any other that we have done. It is a smooth day from start to finish when everything is clearly laid out and thought of well in advance. We are best known for our tireless work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to communicate with our clients and vendor team. Since Ashley and I work on all back office details together, everything is fine, well thought out, and covered.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
The whole wedding process is a collaborative effort! We know that most clients are new to this process, and it may be overwhelming to know where to begin, so working together on all aspects of the wedding becomes exactly what they are looking for and need. We don’t have a standard formula for how we approach how we work with each client; after conversations about so many things, we establish the best way to collaborate with that particular client and go from there!
