Today we’d like to introduce you to Aisa Blue.
Hi Aisa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Blue La La everybody, my name is Aisa Blue. I’m a 23-year-old native of Columbia SC. Growing up I was always inspired by the art that was around me. God let me know then that I was chosen! As a child, I would often sing and create my own songs. I was determined to change the narrative of music and all that is my art. My stepfather was a big influence in my life. He was older than my mom and so his music was classic. I was introduced to the great Isley Brothers, Ready for the world, Etta James, and many others at an impressionable age. I’d like to say they assisted with the Soulful sound you may hear when I speak or sing. I was in the fourth grade when my stepfather encouraged me to put the songs in my head on paper! I’ve been a writer ever since! I’d also like to thank my Alma mater Benedict College for its influence. Within Benedict, I developed the confidence and the star that is Aisa Blue. Again, nothing was possible without God, most of what I do comes from the Devine.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In life they say we get lemons, but as we know lemons can go a lot of ways. If with sugar and water you get sweet lemonade, if by itself you get sour, and if in the eye you get burned! I’d like to say that’s my journey so far. I’ve had sweet lemonade moments, but life has Also been sour, and it’s also hurt and burned. However, I don’t let moments define me I live through them and journey on, or shall I say in? As an artist, I’ve had really low times such as depression, homelessness, suicidal thoughts, and insecurities. Those lows were the bottom I needed to propel up! As an artist, I’ve had high times like love, graduations, and even major accomplishments! Those highs like the lows propelled me up. I say all this to say that as an artist it’s life’s mission to give us its best whether that’s good or bad so that we can take those moments and express them! Give others a reason to keep on, and let them know we’re all one and I see you.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am simply an artist! I sing, rap, write, act, perform poetry and deliver motivational speeches. Within my community, I’m known for all those things as well as women and black empowerment! I’m most proud of being able to use my gifts to shed light on serious matters of the human! Whether it be emotions, injustice, or simply something that feels good, I try to make each kind of person feel seen within this world. I do these things because I am authentically me, and that’s what sets me apart. It is no gimmick or persona, I Am confidently Aisa Blue, and Aisa Blue is Chosen, she’s love and kindness, an image and daughter of God, she’s hope, and sometimes anger, she’s a Human / Being.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
To anyone looking for answers on how to get started, I’d simply say start with you. Literally every opportunity whether it be shows, mentors, or amazing articles like this they all came naturally. Literally, if you put the work in the opportunities will come. Also, make sure you put yourself in the environments you want to be in! What I mean is set your whole life up around what it is you want to do. Have friends who if not are in are interested in what you do! Go to places where people who are already successful in what you do are at! If you want to be a cigar lounge owner have friends who smoke or know about cigars, or own lounges. Also, hang out and network within cigar lounges, that’s also how you find mentors and possible investors.
