Today we’d like to introduce you to Agustin Camacho.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
It all started in 1995. I started as a dishwasher in a Mexican restaurant in North Carolina after school. I quickly learned and worked myself up to the server. In 1998 my family moved to Charleston, and I worked at a Mexican restaurant as a server and worked myself up to be the manager. I learned to move the business as if it was mine. After getting together with my girlfriend, I decided to open my own business. We both work hard for the business and have been the first ones in and, for a while, the last ones out. After 10 years, we were able yo open our second location.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It took a lot of work. We were in recession back in 2010. We were the first ones in and the last ones out. It took a lot of work to get good workers. I learn every position in my business. I was often found to be filling more than one position to go through the day.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have not been able to go to college for economic reasons. I worked hard and did all the good I could. I had great bosses, and I took the best for myself. I learn to run the business from A to Z. I ensure you get great service and great quality food in a great atmosphere. I’m always renovating the business, ensuring you feel comfortable in a clean environment with great people. It’s a family restaurant for families to come and enjoy. We have a great community that supports us here in Moncks Corner.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
It is a challenging road for those who want to build something of their own. You work more as a boss than just a worker. There are sacrifices you have to make but don’t give up; everything gets better, and you will be rewarded. Discipline and keep your mind on your goal. There are always good people that will help you if you just ask.
