Life & Work with ABRAHAM JENKINS of CHARLESTON, SC

Today we’d like to introduce you to ABRAHAM JENKINS.

ABRAHAM JENKINS

Hi ABRAHAM, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My program was solely inspired by the trial and tribulations I went through in my life. Going through the juvenile system as a youth and ending up in the federal system as an adult, pushed my passion more. I was adopted at the age of 3.

After losing my brother this past year December 19,2023 to gun violence, after healing I decided to start my program back up which started in 2021. During the time of start up I had federal pending charges for leading the uprising down in Charleston when George Floyd got murdered. Within that month I had 50 plus mentees signed up for the program while actively on house arrest but still was sentenced to year and a half federal time in Florida.

Our goal and mission in the program is to show our kid through recreational activities, including the fine arts… emotions can be expressed, stories can be told…… you can really just let loose in those times.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been. I’ve been on probation since the age of 14. I’ve been to state prison. Federal prison. I’ve had my voter rights taken from me. Ivr been in multiple deadly car accidents. Just really a lot of different obstacles that shaped me into the man I am today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Big Bros 4 Life works with young men ages 5-18 years old. We often host our community clean ups/ gathering around the tri county area. We try to do work in the community to gain understanding of the people and also the respect of the people. I’ve leaned and understand that these kids need LOVE. These communities need LOVE. We stand on LOVE. Unity and peace. We work with special needs kids to an extent also.

I am most proud of our back to school bash we hosted recently where we gave 100+ bookbags away, over 100 shoes and also school supplies. We provided free haircuts for the kids with cotton candy and popcorn. Over 200 people participated in our FIRST ANNUAL BACK TO SCHOOL BASH.

What sets me apart from others is that I’m passionate and I’m thinking day and night of ways to improve the program and help these kids. I’m willing to get into the communities that others are uncomfortable going in. I’m looking not to make this program local but NATIONWIDE

What matters most to you? Why?
Faith. God has brought me through so many things. So many seen and unseen dangers. He’s kept me when I couldn’t have kept myself. Man, without God I would be nothing. I wouldn’t even be living today in this world and that’s the honest truth. I’ve been shot at, in multiple deadly accidents and more that could’ve taken me out. I’ve been in the court room multiple times where I could have been locked up for multiple years but God was there to where as what they thought would happen didn’t. WHAT THE DEVIL MEANT FOR BAD, JESUS MEANT FOR MY GOOD.

This program matters to me alot and I put everything in God’s hand. And since starting it once again he’s been moving in bigger ways than I could’ve even imagined.
