Inspiring Conversations with Tony Palmer & Claire Guindon of The Kids That Give Back

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Palmer & Claire Guindon.

Tony & Claire Palmer & Guindon

Hi Tony & Claire, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We are a couple who found each other on our journey of growth, fulfillment, and purpose in life. We both volunteer with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Low Country and enjoy working with the younger versions of ourselves. Contributions can create lasting fulfillment and purpose in one’s life. It’s common to see adults overcoming life challenges and finding this out later on. We aim to instill empathy & compassion into the next generation, while guiding them to believe in themselves.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Anyone starting a business knows that a smooth road doesn’t exist. The bumps and pivots make the best memories. What began as a vision wanting to impact more lives, has become something greater than we imagined, a program instilling life skills to build lasting fulfillment, purpose and joy in our younger generation. We are happy every pivot led us to a better outcome. Oddly enough, we look forward to our following “struggles” as we know they are not failures, but a way to grow into something more significant. Rejection is just redirection.

I appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Kids That Give Back?
Our camp makes a difference, not only in our kids, but in our community. We believe in creating a big impact with small hands. We are gamifying giving back to make kiddos beg to keep serving all while fostering their self-confidence and growth in the process. Kids will embark on a journey filled with unique and fun “quests” to unlock, earn, and create gifts for others within their community!

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
COVID sped up the technological world. After two years of solitude inside, with the decreased human interaction, more and more kids feel anxious and alone. If we start focusing on something bigger than just ourselves, instilling a mindset of “what can I give” over “what can I get”, it can cause lasting fulfillment and purpose in the next generation of independent, happy and successful leaders.
