Inspiring Conversations with Riyo Jordan Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Riyo Jordan.

Hi Riyo, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up, I was always behind a camera, capturing the off-guard happy moments at family events to the posed memories of the last day of school. Memories have always been a great part of me because love and family are a great part. I bought my first professional camera in 2016 as an investment into my passion. In addition, being a veterinary technician, I began taking pictures of pets. After creating a Facebook page, logo, and business name, I realized my heart was not into taking pictures of pets thus, putting my photography dream on hold. In February of 2018, one of the most painful and traumatic experiences happened to me. I lost my grandmother. Amid my grief, I came across photos I took of my grandmother, which sparked a passion for looking back at all the memories of those I have lost. While looking back, it finally hit me, pictures can last forever, but people, unfortunately, do not. This was when I knew my purpose was to make permanent memories not only in my life but in the lives of others. This inspired and encouraged me to establish a legacy that encourages legacies. This was when Hidden Truth images were born in 2019. Two short years later, the name was changed to Riyo Jordan Photography, and here we stand today. I was mainly serving local areas near and around Summerville, SC.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It would have been great if the road was smooth. However, trials equate to growth. I struggled to find what many may call a niche—venturing from animals, nature, and street photography, to trying any new shooting opportunity that came my way. While building my business in Ohio, in February of 2020, I became a wife, and later that year, in October, my husband and I decided to move to South Carolina. This was one of my hardest obstacles because I had to leave behind my family, friends, and everything I knew to start a new venture. At the time, I was a full-time veterinary technician, a new wife, and learning my place in this new place personally and from a business perspective. Leaving comfort to go into the unknown is not always easy, but with my leap of faith came many blessings and moments of continuous prosperity. I wouldn’t change the road I traveled because It has made me who I am today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Riyo Jordan Photography?
Riyo Jordan Photography serves local areas, mostly around Summerville, SC. With Riyo Jordan Photography, our main focus is establishing legacies and making happy memories while specializing in branding shoots. The business owner is the brand; therefore, their brand should reveal their vision, personality, what they offer the clients and the uniqueness of how! What separates us from other photography businesses is the connection we strive to have with every client, to the point where we consider our clients as family members. Booking with Riyo Jordan Photography does not just guarantee beautiful pictures, swift turnaround time, an online gallery, and free printing rights but a place in the Jordan family. Our greatest gem is our love for what we do and the people we do it for. For the happy parents who want to celebrate their child’s educational success with a graduation shoot to the up-and-coming business owner who wants to express themselves in their business through images but doesn’t know how or have the time. Pictures can create memories, encourage yourself, motivate others, and speak in a way that sometimes words cannot accomplish. Our main shoots include senior/graduation shoots, events, personal motivational portraits, family, and branding.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Without risk, there is no room for growth. Our mistakes and obstacles in life teach us what to do and what not to do. My greatest risk was moving states away from my family and security. I was a new wife, in a new place, with new people. That was a true risk. For someone who loves their family, being away from them was a mental struggle. As time went by, I began to see myself finding myself and blossoming into someone I never knew could exist. Now here I am two years later with family, friends, and a new support group I built from scratch. My greatest risk became one of my greatest success stories. So if you find yourself taking a risk, ask yourself your intent on the inside and the positive it can lead to. I didn’t realize I was in a box until I left it.
