Today we’d like to introduce you to Khristina Lawler.
Hi Khristina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Khristina and I am the owner/operator of Shvaas Spa. As a one-time single mom working in the corporate world as a sales representative, I know all too well the daily stressors of life. What I was never taught was how to balance life and rejuvenate myself so I could stay healthy. Statistically, 95% of major health ailments derive from stress. Our goal is to offer quick, easy access to some of the best stress-relieving modalities and help people learn that self-care is not selfish but a necessity.
Established amidst the COVID-19 crisis, Shvaas Spa was created to be a space for people to learn to live in the present, improve their respiratory health, support immunity, and rejuvenate their body, mind, and spirit. Khristina has dreamed of offering a safe space to breathe, experience, and be introduced to meditation and other natural wellness practices, and to support overall health and well-being.
Intending to offer natural, complementary wellness practices to the community, Shvaas Spa supports physical and mental health, providing Halotherapy (dry salt therapy), Sunlighten Infrared Saunas, Hydro-Massage, and two meditation gardens which allow clients to sit back and relax in our zero gravity massage chairs while taking part in recorded guided meditations and affirmations. Our newest services include vibroacoustic sound therapy(think Nikola Tesla) and PEMF/Red Light Therapy for skin rejuvenation, muscle recovery, and healing.
If you are looking for that place to begin your wellness journey, look no further. We would love to be a part of your journey. Whether it’s through guidance or just being your biggest cheerleader, we will be here for you!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Getting started was rough. We are all stressed every day and that includes me. I was a busy person in sales traveling all over SC. What I never did, was have time for myself. Give myself that mental break. To start a business from the ground up takes a lot of courage and since we live in a fearful state of mind most of the time, it takes that courage and support to jump in. I tried to get loans and that was an extremely difficult task. People don’t just hand out money. I tried the avenue of SBA that didn’t work out too well. After failing those avenues and being ready to give up someone approached me and said, get your business plan ready to present to an investor. I did, I shared it with this investor who thought it was a great, well-needed idea and decided to help. With the start-up funds now available, we hit the ground running and not looking back.
As a person who has always lived a fearful life, I now have changed my outlook. I’ve asked myself and others, “if you are standing on a dock and ready to jump in, do you dip your toe in first to see how cold it is or do you just jump in?” Sometimes, we have to jump in. Can we fail? Sure, but we can prosper too.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I personally see my industry becoming a necessity in life. Mental health concerns are on the rise. We can only sweep it under the rug for so long. What people don’t realize is when you consistently do for others and pour from an empty cup, you fall into depression. When you do something for yourself it makes you feel good. Our self-care options all have numerous benefits ranging from mental, physical, and emotional and we hope to teach people that “self-care is healthcare”. If you don’t take the time now for your self-care, you’ll be forced to focus on your healthcare later in life.
