Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn Galloway.
Hi Kaitlyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
The Galloway Farm came to be in 2020 after we (Jared and Kaitlyn Galloway) grew tired of living in a subdivision and wanted more freedom and more space. We found some acreage in Ash, NC and the best part was the house we bought came with a potbelly pig. I guess you could say that’s where our dream to farm began. We quickly started adding animals to our farm and eventually bought a herd of 5 Nigerian Dwarf goats. In an effort to make the animals essentially pay for themselves, we started making soap with the goat milk. Our soap was in high demand and we quickly outgrew our little Etsy shop and started our own website. We have since added goat milk lotion and shampoo, lip balm, and other things like sourdough starter.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have had multiple challenges along the way, the first of them being balancing full-time jobs while trying to get our business off the ground. I (Kaitlyn) was a registered nurse before I decided I wanted to go all in on our farm. Another challenge we’ve had is learning time management. We’re not just shipping products out to people, we’re taking care of our animals and making sure their needs are met daily, we’re humanely breeding our goats and milking them daily, we’re taking that milk and making products, then getting them out to people. It’s a lot of work. A challenge we are still learning how to deal with is marketing our products in such a fast-paced world. We try to look at these challenges as learning experiences that help us grow not only as a business, but as individuals as well.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Galloway Farm. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a small farm who is primarily known for goat milk products. We make goat milk soap, lotion, and shampoo. We make our products with goat milk because it is a powerhouse for your skin. It hydrates and locks in moisture without stripping the skin of its natural oils and it is packed with fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals that repair the skin’s natural barrier and naturally exfoliates. We don’t use any harsh ingredients in our products. Our products are great for people with dry skin, eczema, psoriasis, rashes, etc. and we have had countless testimonials of people having success with our products. We pride ourselves in making all of our products in small batches to ensure top quality.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Our business was started after the height of COVID so I don’t think it has really applied to our business. Personally, however, we have learned how important it is to learn new skills in self-sufficiency and we have found great passion in being growers and creators, instead of just consumers.
