

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Quiroz.
Hi Elizabeth, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Since I was a teenager, skincare has been my passion. I remember going to the department stores’ skincare sections in my hometown of Lima, Peru, and loving buying skin and hair care products. I graduated with an MBA in Lima, Peru, and did my postgraduate studies in sales in Barcelona, Spain. But honestly, my heart was more into reading magazines about fashion, skincare, hair styling, and music!
I moved to the USA in 2017, leaving my family, a job in my major, and all that I used to know to start a new family life. I supported myself with money coming from the sale of the apartment I owned in Lima. By 2021, I was working and interacting a lot on digital media. After the global pandemic, the world changed. Despite the fact I was using my regular moisturizer and sunscreen every day, I started seeing changes in my skin, such as hyperpigmentation, dullness, and dehydration. I began to suspect I could have a problem from too much exposure to my computer screen. I suspected this because increased screen time was the biggest change in my habits that year. After interacting more with the digital world, I talked with my closest relatives and girlfriends and found that many faced the same skin issues.
I decided to do in-depth research about blue light and its potential impact on the skin. I learned that too much exposure to blue light weakens the outermost layer of the skin and delays its recovery from daily skin stressors, inducing oxidative stress, which can lead to inflammation and collagen degeneration and cause hyperpigmentation. I realized that today’s skin care needs are different from the past. I knew I needed to do something about this problem for myself and anyone interacting in a digital world.
I conducted my research by doing focus groups and one-on-one interviews on what women were looking for in a moisturizer and what ingredients they would prefer in a new formulation. After finishing my product research and spending a year choosing the right laboratory to make the formula, I created Aviori®- Skincare’s first and signature product, Blue Light Defense Crème. The Crème is an innovative multi-purpose moisturizer and primer that protects from the aging effects of blue light, with microalgae as its main ingredient.
Blue Light Defense Crème was my first product that addressed women’s and men’s skincare needs. Since it was my first “baby,” I handled every production detail. In addition to the formulation, I spent a great deal of time researching and testing the right packaging that would perfectly maintain the formula with a modern, convenient, and elegant design. God blessed my initial efforts, and people began buying my product. The difference between Aviori® and other skincare brands is our interactive communication with our customers. We had a social media campaign asking our customers which other products they need for their skincare routine. Based on their responses, we worked on creating the products they requested.
After additional research, we created and launched two new products: Reset- Green Tea Facial Cleanser, a cleanser for all skin types, and Ceramide Capsules Serum, a nighttime treatment comprised of lipids that make up a large part of the skin’s natural barrier. In addition to social media marketing, I have participated in local trade shows and a Daytona Beach, FL trade show. The Aviori® products have been well received at the trade shows. God is blessing me by allowing me to pursue my passions, skin care and health because providing skin care is health.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a challenging road. First, I received some negative feedback when I shared the news about creating a different skin care product line based on actual skin care needs. Comments like “There are so many skincare lines in the market already; why would people choose your brand?” Fortunately, I never paid attention to those comments, and I continued with my path, and my efforts have been successful. Second, to have the financial resources to start my business, I invested the retirement savings I made during my single years in Peru. Initially, I had to do everything myself: Research and Development, Marketing, Logistics, and Social Media and I was doing all that after putting my children to bed. I now have a fantastic social media team, which is truly connected with my customers and the brand. Finally, I can focus on researching the products based on people’s needs!
My advice for those just starting out is to keep walking and trust God. He is the best guide. The beginning is always challenging, and success comes with effort and patience. I wish I had known how to make decisions faster in this market, but I know I had to gain experience first, and now I can make more informed decisions.
