Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Terry.
Hi Barbara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Barbara is a Lowcountry native, born to Lowcountry natives. Frederick George Terry and Dena Heath Terry; my grandfather owned Terry Sign Co. and Terry Enterprises in his prime. My father, Frederick Terry Middleton High school football player and graduating class of 82. My grandmother also a Charleston native, was a nurse at Roper hospital downtown Charleston. My mother’s family is also from Charleston and they were pillars in their church and community of Pierpont. I’m the twin sister of an amazing craftsman, who unfortunately saw his untimely passing in September of 2021. Ricky Terry is his name, and my name is Barbara Terry. We have a little sister, Shelby Mcconnell, who is now in her 20s, and she manages a lovely local restaurant in Mount Pleasant called Maple Street. I feel so abundantly blessed to be from such a beautiful place and to be able to share this place with so many others is just sublime. It has always given me a great sense of joy to be here in Charleston and be from here as well. Getting to share stories and pieces of history that are also pieces of my life is priceless. Choosing a career in real estate for me, was totally unexpected but I know it’s my calling. I don’t feel like I am ever at work, because to me, my career isn’t work. I get to visit pristine locations all over the Lowcountry in the name of work! Charleston is my home it is me, and I am Charleston through and through. If you ever have a question about anything Charleston-related, especially housing market in Charleston-related, just reach out to me! I would be honored to assist. Lowcountrylivinghomes.com is my website or you can call me! 843-259-6371
I began my real estate career in 2017 and I couldn’t be happier with that decision I’ve been a top producing agent for the last year consecutively and would love to keep that up but to do it, I need your support! So, keep supporting local, and remember I feed my family on referrals. It means everything to me to carry on my family’s legacy of business ownership in the Charleston area. I have big aspirations to make a major difference in this area. From supporting our homeless population, helping to secure a shelter for the homeless, to offer transitional housing to the abused, as well as veterans transitional housing. I can’t do this without your help!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. I have faced many trials and tribulations along the way. There have been many times I have questioned things and asked myself, am I crazy? Can I really do this? And each time I evaluate, I see that I can, I am, I will and I do. Which is an amazing affirmation I recommend to ANYONE to use anytime! ❤ I struggled with imposter syndrome and feeling like I’m not good enough.
I struggled finding balance *still struggling with this with my home life and career
I think the biggest struggle I’ve faced was believing in myself in the face of adversity.
We’ve been impressed with Barbara Terry the Realtor with Coldwell Banker, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a full-service Realtor and this means that I earn my income primarily from working in real estate providing the public with real estate services. I specialize in military relocation, as we are in a HUGE military town, Coast guard, naval weapons station, Paris Island, joint base Charleston, air force base many places that bring military members to our communities and they need homes! I’m well versed in VA Loans and how those work, as well as what property types are eligible. I’m experienced in new construction, as I worked for a builder when I began my career in 2017. I work with investors and, have experience with land sales and purchase as well as luxury homes, luxury golf resort-style homes, beach homes, single-family homes, mobile homes, investment property, rental homes. Whatever you need, if you need an answer, I will get it for you. My website is called Lowcountrylivinghomes.com because I’m all about Lowcountry living, and I sell homes so they coincide. I call myself Barbara Terry The Realtor because I am your go-to realtor in South Carolina. I can connect you to a realtor anywhere in the world, but when it comes to my home, rest assured, I will take phenomenal care of you.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me, success is deciding on a goal or achievement and taking the steps necessary to reach that. Success doesn’t look like something that just happens overnight success looks like long nights, hard work, sweat, tears, falling down and getting up and doing it again and again even though it hurts. Success is digging your heels in and saying I want this so I’m going to get it. Success is fighting as hard as you can for your dreams and not stopping until you make them reality. To me, success is earned. It’s worked for and you have to work for it every single day.
