Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Waring.
Hi Angel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
While I was in middle school, my older brothers would make me put braids in their hair for fun. I soon learned that I liked doing my own hair and I would spend time watching YouTube videos and practicing on myself. I didn’t begin to take it seriously until my sophomore year of college at Coastal Carolina University. After coming home for the summer and realizing I did not like working for others I decided to venture off into my own passion. I had a longtime friend, Antwanique LaShay, who is considered a vet when it comes to braiding, see my potential in 2017. She asked me to help her braid her clients down and ever since then I’ve been doing hair full-time. With the support of those in my community and school, my clientele grew tremendously from word of mouth or social media. Honestly, it shocked me because for a long time I never felt good enough. However, with more classes, I’ve taken and time perfecting my craft, I’ve gotten better really fast. Now I’m here as a full time traveling stylist, instructor, and bridal stylist.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Anything worth having is never easy. Over the course of these past years, I’ve lost my nephew (age 5), niece (age 2), and brother (age 29). I have dealt with depression, anxiety, and felt suicidal some days because of it. Those are close hits to take but I’ve honestly never showed it but to those very close to me. However, hair has always been my getaway from those things and made me feel better. I use to work myself tirelessly to get my mind in a better space. Although sometimes, I was overworked, I knew my drive would take me far if I stayed consistent. As of June 2021, I had a beautiful baby boy name A’Mir and he pushes me to go very hard; because I want to be a great role model for him. Being a young mom is very challenging and some days I want to quit I know I can’t because he needs me more than anybody else. If I fail him I truly fail myself and that’s just something I won’t allow.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Founded in 2017 by Angel Waring. It started with braiding and has since ventured off to more including, locs and lace. Now known as a traveling stylist with my own hair line, MSB Extensions, LLC. I am most proud of how supportive those around me are. Without support, I probably wouldn’t have made it this far and I am grateful for those in my life who give my brand that extra push. I will be based in Atlanta, GA as of June 2022. Also, I will have suites in Charlotte, NC and Houston, TX available for services in the near future.
How do you think about luck?
Luck is a myth. You just have to be faithful to God and to yourself. Being consistent is the key because nothing is ever given.
