Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Chiorazzo.
Andrea, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have a passion for baking which I believe started or maybe developed with my grandma Lele. I always enjoyed and loved to bake – and eat – cakes and desserts. When I came to the US many years ago, I wanted to sell alfajores and other cakes very common in my country – Argentina – but due to other goals I wanted to achieve, I put it on the “to-do list”. After years of learning, achieving goals, and acquiring diverse experiences from the working field, I’ve decided to start with my own company.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not. First, the language barrier. I knew very little English. So, when I came to the US, I started to take English classes as a second language. Soon after, I got bored and decided to do International Business. That was one of the hardest but most rewarding experiences. I remember nights in tears having to study with the books and the dictionary helping me to understand in order to learn. I also recorded classes from instructors that were talking very fast because I was lost in the classroom. Then, life itself was at times rough but I could overcome any adversity to achieve my goals and get to where I wanted to be for now…
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
SuMi specializes in handcrafting Alfajores – Argentinian style – which is a delicate sandwich cookie with a unique texture and flavor not found anywhere else. You can find a million recipes but we made our own like no other. We do offer different flavors for the Charleston market and customize them for each client. We are so unique because there is no edibles like ours and also, we do not carry a stock. Everything is freshly made upon the pre-orders we receive and we strive to make them as perfect as possible so they are delicious and beautiful. People love to have this unique confectionery to share in their special events or give it as a gift.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is hard to describe but… I dare to say what I feel… It is to do what you love while making a positive impact into other’s life. From SuMi’s perspective is to bring some the Argentinian culture through a joyful and enjoyable time while tasting our unique Alfajores.
