Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Mauro.
Hi Wendy, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. Before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story, and how did you get to where you are today?
I have lived in Charleston for 13 years with my husband and 2 teenagers. I have had my own interior design business for 7 years. I first started with the renovation of my own home. Then friends were asking me for advice, and then friends of friends. I now work with architects and builders and have a team of 3. I love creating homes for people, whether a new building, renovating, or updating a single room. Working with skilled contractors allows us to be creative and push ourselves with each new project. I am so flattered and honored that people want me to help them make a fun, creative space for their families to gather.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Funny enough, the smooth road was in the beginning. I hustled while working on a project, but it was always fun. About a year in, I started working with my now COO. She helped elevate the business side and set everything up for success. We have added 2 more people to help us execute our plans, designs, and details. Now that we are a team of 4, there is much more business pressure. I must wear many hats and still have time to be creative. Responsibility for people’s livelihoods is daunting, but we set goals and work towards them with each project.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Wendy Mauro Design?
We are a full-service residential interior design studio serving the greater Charleston, South Carolina area. Wendy Mauro Design is known for creating functional, family-friendly spaces with a fresh, modern take on traditionalism. Whether tackling a new build, a renovation, or a multi-room refresh, our diverse experience and skills in project management and problem-solving alleviate all pressure surrounding projects, resulting in a timeless, truly bespoke design and effortless experience. Our experience looking at the full flow of a house sets us apart. Not only do we make the rooms look pretty, we strive to make the space functional. Being in the architectural review phase of a project is our ideal stage. This allows us to review the function and lifestyle of the family. We incorporate architectural details and unique add-ons while thinking about furniture placement and privacy at the same time.
We’d like to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I feel lucky for so many reasons that I have a supportive husband and family that enabled me to pursue this design adventure 7 years ago. I had friends who wanted my advice and recommended me. I have a team that sees my vision and growth for our business. Builders, merchants, and architects guide us, and clients keep reaching out.
