Hidden Gems: Meet Trell Martin of Full Effect Designs & Images

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trell Martin.

Hi Trell, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Full Effect Designs & Images is successfully owned and operated by Trell Martin, a native of Ward, SC. There was always a love for photography. When I was a child, I use to love to take photos but seem to always cut people’s heads off. Once I started to attend college two brothers of mines (Tremayne Johnston and Naiquawn Anderson) introduced me to adobe photoshop. While doing graphics, I noticed that it ties into photography so I finally bought my first camera. Taking photos for family members, I still remember the first paid wedding that I did, I had to give a refund (laughter) but I was determined to not give up and to make sure that I perfect the craft.

Sitting at work one day, I had the dream of being the next Portrait Innovations and I set forth to achieve my dream. After talking things over with my family, I set off to make the dream come true. As of January 6, 2020, I walked away from my full-time job and decided to make Full Effect Designs & Images the path. Once opening a studio, I wanted to also open other opportunities for other photographers and allow them a space to shoot their session.

I’ve always been a person that liked to give to others and help them. Throughout the years and especially since I have been a business owner, I have learned that I enjoy helping others and that has kept me up and going and very appreciative of what I have been blessed with.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road. Exactly one month after opening the photography studio the pandemic shut down the world. Being self-employed and partially shut down made things have to be revamped to make sure that I could still provide for me and my family.

The second biggest struggle was when I was getting started, I reached out to several others to be mentored to and I was denied. It made me want to give up but I was determined to make sure I succeed.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
