Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Taylor.
Hi Sean, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I took up photography and design in high school and when I made it to college, I started the Sabal Palm brand. In 2019, I formed Sabal Palm Creative Agency to provide quality creative services, content, and products for the culture of South Carolina and beyond.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. From financial struggles to personal struggles, there have been quite a few bumps in the road. At times, it’s been difficult to stay motivated and free of doubt. There have been times when I released product or content and it wouldn’t sell, or it wouldn’t connect with my audience. There have been times when I’ve had to make hard financial decisions that determined the fate of my business. I’ve even ran into issues with people stealing my designs and ideas. I try my best to not let it get to me, though. With perseverance, dedication, and faith, I’ve been able to push through any obstacles in my way.
We’ve been impressed with Sabal Palm Creative Agency, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sabal Palm Creative Agency was created to provide quality creative services, content, and products for the culture of South Carolina and beyond. The Sabal Palmetto, to me, represents strength and longevity, and the Sabal Palm brand proves to stand the test of time.
The business started off as just a t-shirt line but expanded to photography, videography, design, creative direction, and more.
To highlight one of the places I attribute to molding me, I released my first documentary series, “Welcome to the Burg” (2019) that spotlights the culture of Orangeburg, SC’s up-and-coming creatives and entrepreneurs.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I feel like the pandemic reinforced lessons and values I already knew, but took for granted. As a natural-born hustler and someone who didn’t grow up with a silver spoon, I already understood that when times are hard and resources are limited, you have to be innovative and rely on your hustle to get by. The pandemic just reinforced that.
The Covid-19 crisis gave us time to sit down and take a close look at ourselves and the world, and during that time I reconnected with myself and with nature. I was able to reach a new level of consciousness; a new level of self-awareness. A lot of people are still feeling the effects of the pandemic and some did not make it. It’s a blessing to still be here.
