Hidden Gems: Meet Ronnise Banks of L & R Tax Services LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronnise Banks.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I’m an Orangeburg native who dreamed of becoming a lawyer as a child. I have a major in Criminal Justice but was always a number person. I started a finance position in Charleston, South Carolina, and I worked there for 6 years until they closed down. When working at the company, my friend referred me to an accountant seeking someone to file taxes, which I knew nothing about. I passed the offer, but I took a tax class afterward. I would work my 9-5 job and then travel 30 minutes out of my way for this tax class for 6-8 weeks, which lasted for 4 hours, three days a week. It was hard, but I knew it would pay off if I completed the course. It did because I started working part-time at this tax office in Charleston, South Carolina. The tax company was very family-friendly. Mr. Gene and Mrs. Myra, the husband and wife (the owners), taught me more than enough about taxes. I worked with them doing taxes for 3 years. They saw my potential and started to push me to brand myself. I already wrote my vision down before the couple (my now mentors) encouraged me to step out, but I was scared. In my final year with them, I gained everything I could have gained and “STEPPED OUT ON FAITH!” I now have my own tax office! My tax office is “L & R Tax Services, LLC,” and we’re located in Orangeburg, South Carolina. I started my business with my husband Latrell (that’s where the L comes from), and of course, “R” is for Ronnise. We are a family-friendly business. Since starting my business, I have trained 8 students and served over 200 clients. We are known for giving each client “Your Key to a Better Return.”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a business owner is always challenging. The road is never smooth. When starting my business, I had to make sure my finances were to present my business as professionally as possible. When you’re from a small town, sometimes the competition is steep, but I was only focused on what I had to offer to the community. I had to ensure I had all the right equipment and software, study the new laws, get the acceptance by the IRS, and start over with building my clientele. So, my road could have been smoother, but it was well worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of L & R Tax Services LLC. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with the brand?
L & R Tax Services, LLC is a tax office that invites anyone who needs help with their tax needs. We try our best to help each client receive all deductions and credits due to them legally. We at L & R Tax Services, LLC specialize in personal taxes, self-employed taxes, all 1099(s), business formation, and notary. When clients enter our office, we make every client feel at home. We do not just ask you to complete a form. We talk to our clients and try to gain respect as a person and a preparer. We don’t want to focus on the money because that will come, but giving our clients our trust is our number one priority. Each tax professional or client I can help with is the best feeling coming from someone who used to be a student. I will always be the student but helping others accomplish their goals is always a good feeling.

If you’re reading this, please know and understand we at L & R Tax Services, LLC would love to help you with your tax needs or to help you build your tax brand. If I can do it, you can too!

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I don’t like my city; I love my city! Orangeburg, South Carolina, made me who I am today! I’ve had good and bad experiences within this city, but I could always remember where I came from. L & R Tax Services, LLC can accommodate all 50 states, but without the people in my city, I wouldn’t be here today as a business owner. It’s a small town, but the people always show support. It can be some nay-sayers, but we can’t focus on the negative when the positive beats all odds.
