Today we’d like to introduce you to Quincy Barrett.
Hi Quincy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I was always around the field of construction. My dad is a general contractor in Walterboro, SC. He would always take me on different job sites trying to teach me as much as possible. I wasn’t always interested in being there, but it would definitely pay off in the long run. I first got the idea of becoming a home inspector when I was shopping for my first home. I was hearing so many stories about people skipping their home inspection just to try to ensure a better chance at securing a home. After touring a few homes with my REALTOR (also my fiancé) and seeing many issues just on the surface of the home, I knew skipping a home inspection would be something I would never want to do. After purchasing my home, I began to research requirements to become a home inspector in South Carolina. It seemed that it would take a lot more effort than I originally thought, but I was definitely up for the challenge. Fast forward to a few months later, and I was able to pass my state certification course and my state licensure exams. From here, I would start my new career as a certified and licensed Home Inspector in South Carolina.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The path to becoming a home inspector and owning my own business has definitely not been an easy one. Studying to learn the course material and passing the exams were one thing, but actually learning how to run a profitable business was something that was completely new to me. I have definitely experienced some growing pains since I started. However, the reward of knowing I’m making a difference far outweighs anything else.
