Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Bourret.
Hi Nina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I have a long history of working with disability services. It started when I was 15 and began babysitting for a child with special needs. I fell in love with working with him and helping him in any way that I could. I continued in this field throughout college where I worked with adults with disabilities. Upon graduation, I changed gears a bit and became a therapist for dually diagnosed individuals with addictions. I then moved to SC where I went back into the field working with children with disabilities. Knowing that I loved this field and wanted to make a difference. I decided it was time to make more of an effort to make a change. I then made my passion my reality and opened agencies that would assist individuals with all disabilities from childhood through adulthood.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road but it has been worth it with every bump and step along the way. The field in general is hard, navigating through what to do and what is best for each individual and their families is not easy. You realize you are working with people and hoping to change their lives for the better. Each individual is so different than any plan you work on needs to be customized to what would be best for each person. Getting there is even more difficult. Working with insurance and the state while trying to receive approvals for these families can become a long and drawn-out process. You’re working 18-hour days all while trying to raise a family of your own. In the end, it’s all worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Navis pad provides services for children and adults with all disabilities. The idea of the Pad was to offer one spot to decrease the stress families feel when navigating services with their children. We provide a gambit of services to follow an individual through their life if needed. Starting with early intervention, followed by respite, mental health counseling, learning and school activities, social groups for teens and adults, vocational skills, and residential services. The mission behind the pad was to provide all we could for the benefit of our clients and their families. Navigating through these different areas for a family is difficult. We wanted to find a way to make this easier for each family. If we could provide all services under one umbrella it would make the process less stressful and easier to navigate for families who are already dealing with a plate full.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I feel luck plays a little role in everything in business. You have to have some luck to get on your path to making your dreams a reality. Yet that little bit of luck needs to be followed by a lot of hard work to get there. I firmly believe that each person can do anything they want but they have to be willing to put in the work to get there.
