Spears Creek Equine, LLC is a family-owned business started in July of 2023 by Marjorie and Kevin Gates in Lugoff, SC. Our mission is to help horse farms manage their waste and recycle horse manure properly in a way that will nourish the ground for plant growth. We both have a background in agriculture and a love for the outdoors. We shadowed our friends, Mason Equine and Contracting Services in Aiken. They have done manure pickup and recycling for 8 years in Aiken County. They were getting requests to come to Camden, but it was too far for them. They reached out to us, believing this would be a great service to offer the area. Once we talked with them and learned from them to ensure that we can meet the needs of the horse community in our area in the same way they are doing in Aiken, we began reaching out to some of their connections and our connections in the Camden area to gauge the interested in this service. We then invested in the needed equipment, got our LLC, and got to work. Marjorie built the website and social media pages got business cards and flyers printed and put out. August was our first official month of business, and we have gotten consistent new client interest since starting.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We are only just beginning. So far, it has been a fairly smooth road for us. We hope to turn this into a full-time position for both of us one day and are sure to face struggles with the transition.

We offer horse manure recycling services in and around Blythewood, Camden, Lugoff & Elgin, SC. Kevin has a passion for working on the tractor, and Marjorie has a passion for horses. Together, we make an unstoppable team dedicated to keeping clients happy.
Horse manure removal is not a very popular service offered in our area. Only one other major company offers this service that we know of, and their clients keep a large container in their yard to fill with horse manure. It could be more attractive. For most farms, this means they need a tractor to lift the manure into the container. With our service, we bring our tractor to scoop the manure into our dump trailer and haul it off. This gives the farm staff one less step and doesn’t require them to have their tractor. We will scoop the manure right off the ground from wherever our client chooses to dump it, or we can build an attractive backstop for clients to dump the manure with a wheelbarrow when mucking the stalls.
We have yet to research precisely what the other waste management company does with the manure, but we are proud to recycle it and use it to nourish the ground for plant growth. We deliver the horse manure to locals excited to use it as nutrient-rich compost for their properties & gardens. As a local, family-owned company, we can help our clients with more than horse manure removal and building custom backstops. We have happily helped our current clients with various projects around their stables, such as grading & leveling the ground, managing water runoff, building stalls, grooming stations, and more.
