Hidden Gems: Meet Lisa Grant of See Wee Homes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Grant.

Hi Lisa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I purchased my first home in my 20’s as a single Mom. I became active in my community and elected President of my homeowner’s association (HOA). A few years later my mother had a massive stroke and was unable to return to her townhouse. We decided to rent her home however, we had a major water leak and decided to repair, renovate and restore the home. I was having so much fun renovating the home I decided to obtain my real estate license. We eventually sold her home and it provided so much joy to a single Mom. This led to my real estate career. When my mom became ill it broke my heart, it was sudden and it was painful. I went through the stages of grief and real estate was my outlet, it kept me busy but it also allowed me to provide a meaningful service to my clients. I found my true calling, I became connected to my clients, joyful, expressive, empathetic, and purposeful.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Hahaha…real estate is never a smooth road. One of my first challenge is making the shift from “Corporate America” to the free spirit lifestyle of entrepreneurship. In a corporation setting, I am used to policies, processes, standard operating procedures, this is how you do it, why you do it, when you do it and where. As a realtor, we follow rules, abide by code of ethics and have a set of moral conduct. However, as an entrepreneur, there is no set schedule to follow. It was difficult to follow a routine, and I spent most of my week “networking” having coffee, lunch with friends, socializing, and taking day trips. When the bills and invoices became due, then I started to use my free time wisely and organize my day hour by hour. I also struggled with the fear of rejection and it’s still a challenge for me. I don’t want to do anything to make my clients angry or say the wrong thing and this is why I never did cold calls. My focus was on the possibility of rejection and I saw it as a sign of failure. With the help of my mentors and coaches, I realized the fear was all in my head. I accept that “No” is normal. Now it’s part of my goal, if I can get ten rejections this week, then I know I will have at least one Yes. And that one yes is worth those ten rejections. Every day I am becoming more accepting of myself and others.

As you know, we’re big fans of See Wee Homes. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
See Wee Homes is a real estate firm assisting with the process of buying and selling residential real estate including pre-owned homes, new construction homes, land, and vacant lots. Your home and family provides the greatest emotional bond, our goal is to help. My purpose is to educate and inform clients on what is important. This sets us apart from others. We recognize that our clients are dealing with more complex problems than ever before. So, we roll up our sleeves, listen, bring ideas and collaborate with our clients. One day I got a phone call from a potential client and he said a friend referred him to me. The friend said Lisa will be honest, direct, and do everything possible to help you. I thought oh wow, yes that is so me, that is what my firm stands for. Here’s some inside scoop, in 2022 we have big plans to move into a new location and offer a home decor boutique.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’ve taken small risks throughout my life but major risks are life-altering. Buying my first home as a single Mom, leaving the security of a career with a regular paycheck and benefits to start a business. These are some major risks that have changed my life. A few years ago, I started looking at my life as a book. and every major change is a chapter. I am a planner, I like to be organized, punctual, and prepared so I take calculated risks. It has to truly improve my life or have the potential to improve my life. I also look at the other side of taking a risk. If it doesn’t go as plan, will I be able to recover, how will I be able to recover and learn from my mistakes.
