Hidden Gems: Meet Kiersten Searles of Searles & Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiersten Searles.

Hi Kiersten, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I was inspired to start Searles & Company, LLC after planning my mother’s 50th birthday party. For her party, she wanted a double celebration of turning 50 years old and being cancer free for 10 years. When she suggested the party I immediately asked her to let me plan it since I had some free time. I helped her choose everything from colors to invitations to food to have.

Planning and bringing it all together was so exciting and everyone had a blast. After the party, a family friend of mine, and also my wedding planner shared how much of a great time she had and at that moment I knew I could see myself planning events and bringing a good time to everyone around me. So the day after the 50/10 birthday party (that’s what we called it) I started researching how to start my own event planning company.

With my mother’s birthday party as a building block, I’m constantly reminded of how far we all can go. When I look at my mother I don’t just see a cancer survivor, I see a strong, intelligent, and encouraging woman and that’s what encourages me to keep going every day.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say nothing we truly want in life will be a smooth road, but I will say it’s been worth it. I’m optimistic about a lot of things so I try to see even my hard days as a positive learning experience. My biggest struggle has been narrowing it down to a niche. Niches help get your company name out there and sometimes wanting to do all the things doesn’t work as well as you want it to in the beginning stages.

As the months have gone by, I’ve grown in confidence in myself and the niche and route I’m choosing of helping businesses launch their companies and products as well as creating events where busy families can slow down and appreciate each other. My confidence shows in how I approach people, promote Searles & Company, LLC, and even how to post on social media.
