Today we’d like to introduce you to Jana Ladson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have had a passion for nails since I was in high school. I first started doing nails in 2022. I started experimenting with press on nails after having surgery to pass time by while I was healing. My friend noticed my talent and really supported my dream and pushed me to pursue my craft further. I bought some cheap brushes and low quality polishes and supplies to start practicing acrylics. It took some time and patience but I finally got it. As time went on, I decided to take classes to get my license in 2023. Working full time and going to class at night was definitely hard but the sacrifices I made were well worth it. In 2024 I finished my classes, got my license and my clientele is growing. It feels great to say I am doing what I love and not just working because I have to.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been a few bumps. Finances were a challenge at times. Building clients in a small, but developing town is also challenging. I’d like to build clients faster and have a larger client base but I am grateful for the clients I currently have.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business is not designed to price gauge or hurt people’s pockets. My goal is to provide top quality work at affordable prices. I offer everything from acrylics/dip powder to natural nail services. My specialties are pedicures and acrylics. I’m also known for my designs and rhinestone work. Something that sets me apart from others is my eye for detail. From shaping to polishing, everything must be perfect! I am currently developing a product line that focuses on maintaining healthy nails and skin between services. For example, if my client is expressing concerns of dry, cracked skin and heels between pedicures, I’d recommend my foot butter to help keep the skin soft & moisturized between services.
I will also be taking some additional training and courses to expand my service menu in the near future.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Focus on mastering phenomenal technique and solid foundation. A nail tech is only as good as their technique. Shop around to find the products and methods that work best for you.
Most of all, have fun! Only be in competition with the nail tech you were yesterday!
