Hidden Gems: Meet James Richesin of Richesin Sewer And Drains LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Richesin.

James Richesin

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
Growing up in a construction family taught me to work with my hands very young. Be proud of the work you can do when you sweat and bleed in a labor job. Growing up with my father, I would help knock down walls, fix cabinets, and do minor things for Richesin Construction in Florida and Tennessee. I moved back with my mother at a young age when I was in middle school, and we ended up in Maine. We bounced around a lot as a child and grew up with little. Moving years ahead, I found a local company that did Residential and Commercial plumbing, drain Cleaning, and Septic pumping. With this company, I enjoyed helping customers with issues they couldn’t handle or providing ideas for their remodels or additions.

Later, with my time, I started running the excavator. I would assist in digging up sewer mains. My knowledge was slim, and I studied a lot on YouTube, asking old-timers for their understanding and just working with my hands to figure out what to do. I worked for this company for a long time and transferred to another company based in New Hampshire. Here, I brought forth my knowledge and was able to bring in revenue that was beneficial for the owners. At this company, I learned even more and could do more. I was number one of 948 technicians in the USA and Canada in this company. The owner, Mark, was great and full of knowledge. I still talk to him to this day. In 2021, we were finally considering building our new home in Maine. Well, this never happened. Our build still needed to be completed, and there were setbacks. We had already sold our home and were coming too close to our closing date. Coming into winter time, we decided to look for houses down in South Carolina after every house we placed bids on in New England needed to be more, with people placing much higher bids. So before Christmas time 2021, we flew down and placed a bid on a home on the border of Myrtle Beach. The sellers accepted our bid, and we now had a place to move to and not be homeless in the winter in Maine. At this point, I needed to find a job here in South Carolina. I found a company that made me an offer and set a start date in February 2022. I stayed in this line of work because it satisfies me and brings self-worth to a level where I know what I can bring to this new company.

So, I started with the new company and brought in much more revenue than they had ever seen for their plumbing department. I’ve done work from Little River to Charleston and out toward Florance, Kingstree, and Salters. In this vast area, I have met some great customers and have replaced more than a hundred sewer lines throughout the area. My biggest experience and expertise are sewer line inspections and locating. Some say I run the excavator like a ballerina on the dance floor. So, with this new company, I worked close to 90 hours a week, always willing to lend a hand to any of my coworkers; in 2023 weeks, we had some healthcare issues. A brown recluse bit me, and was in the hospital for days in Massachusetts after doing a run to New Hampshire. We ended up coming back home, and that Friday, we arrived home, and my wife went to the hospital. She ended up being there for almost two weeks. So, after returning to work after some time off, the company and I came to a crossroads where we ended up separating. So, the same day, I went to another company and got hired. I was there for four days. The morning of my fourth day, the owner spoke about how he came about opening up his business and followed what he dreamed of creating. Hearing his story hit me hard in the heart, and at that point, I decided with my wife to open up our new company and do what I love to do. So, in July, we opened up and are doing well. We have had some great customers, and the reviews are great. We strive to be reasonably priced and fair. We cannot wait to see how the end of 2023 will be for us.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
