Hidden Gems: Meet Cynthia McFadden of The Diva Wedding Planner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia McFadden.

Cynthia McFadden

Hi Cynthia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved weddings and planning events. In 2016, my cousin hired me as her planner, and I was so nervous because the budget was huge. Well, with the guidance of a friend who was a wedding designer at that time, I planned a luxury dream wedding. I self-taught myself the flow of the timelines and rehearsal do’s and don’ts. The wedding was the beginning of something special that I love. Seeing the couple’s reaction to the room reveal is so rewarding. I started with a staff of three people and now I have 8 part time employees.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to being a planner requires a lot of patience and being able to work with all personalities. We can plan the entire year and create the dream wedding, but if one thing goes wrong, the day can go left quickly! LOL. It is a lot of pressure, even things the planner may not have control over , such as insufficient food, seats, etc. The planner is the one the guests will sometimes complain to and about. I still need help with guests not waiting until their table number is to called to eat… sounds minor, but people become frustrated when that happens.I have learn what works best based of the guest count and making sure everyone is taken care as well as enjoy the wedding. It has not been a smooth ride but it has been worth it and necessary for growth.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your business.
The Diva Wedding Planner was self-funded with my funds. It is my baby, my vision. I specialized in weddings, baby showers, retirement parties, and Sweet 16 parties. I am known for luxury weddings. I work with all budgets, and it sets me apart from others. I do full planning and 90 days of planning which is unique. All should know that I am very personable with each couple. The first thing I do is a budget planning meeting because the process is much smoother when everyone knows what to expect. I take pride in being transparent with my couples. We cater to all couples. Finally, my brand stands out because I am the only planner in the area with an official wedding planner book/guideline. The planner can be found on my website purchase.

We’d like to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I do not see it as good luck, just God’s blessings.
