Hi Chase, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My partner and I have always had a strong obsession with all things scent. From candles to plug-in air fresheners, we had it all. After experiencing headaches and allergies we decided to do some research. We discovered that our favorite store-bought products primarily contained paraffin-based wax and toxic fragrance oils. Our desire to develop an all-natural product combined with our love for the beautiful Carolina coastline was the start of our small business. After formulating our scents and extensive testing we launched Lucid Coast, an all-natural home fragrance made by the sand, and inspired by the sea. We began selling online and at local farmers markets. We are now proudly featured in the Charleston City Market as well as various boutiques, hotels, and gift shops across the country.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning a small business always has its ups and downs. I would say the biggest struggle is time management. Me and my partner, Landon do everything in our business. From our website and marketing to events and creating our products. If I could give any advice to others it would be to manage your time as best you can! Always take a moment to breathe.
As you know, we’re big fans of Lucid Coast Candle Company. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Lucid Coast was created by me (Chase) and my partner (Landon). We wanted to find a way to combine our love for the low country with our love for natural home fragrances. Our original collection is inspired by the rich scents of the south. From the sweet scents of jasmine and tea throughout downtown Charleston in the spring to a crisp night on the marsh in Murrells Inlet. Each of our scents is specifically curated to allow you to transport yourself to the Carolina Coastline no matter where you are. Each scent has its own story to tell.
All of our products are handmade by us daily in small batches. We use 100% natural soy wax from US-based farms with zero additives. We also use a natural cedar wood wick which ensures a zero-soot/smoke-less burn. This provides a cleaner burning candle for you and your home. All fragrances we use are custom blends created by us that we truly believe will take you to your favorite low-country spot, without the driving. Another fun fact about our candles is that they can be used as hand lotion in between burns.
I think the biggest thing that separates us from others is our candles. We include a unique wax embellishment on the top of the candle to represent the theme. Our best seller, Carolina Coastline features a blue sea turtle on the top. We hand-paint and craft each top before they are re-stocked.
Our commitment to environmental sustainability is the most important part of our business. We have always used eco-friendly supplies and recyclable packaging however we recently introduced a new addition to our commitment.
Buy One, Plant One. We have recently partnered with a non-profit known as One Tree Planted to plant a tree for every product sold. Every month we made a donation to the organization to help give back to Mother Nature. We choose a location that has been affected heavily by forest fires, deforestation, etc.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
We started our business in the middle of the pandemic, however, I definitely learned a lot of lessons both through personal and work life throughout the pandemic.
