Exploring Life & Business with Washina Fowler White of Scented Serenity

Today we’d like to introduce you to Washina Fowler White.

Hi Washina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My biggest influencers are my parents, the late and great Martha J. Smith and Lincoln K. Fowler. My mother encouraged me to continue my education and my father was thrilled when I opened my business, Scented Serenity by Washina. I remember messing in their bathroom, as a child, mixing up their jerry curl activator and hand soap to make a hair gel to tame my curly ponytails since I didn’t have my own hair products. Forty years later, the messing and mixing continued, and I surprised myself when my products worked and became my own beauty secrets. With the knowledge gained from my studies, I learned first how to structure my business and then market my products. My product line was amazing and I made up my mind that failing was not an option. I would spend sleepless nights “in the lab” as I called it mixing ingredients for the ultimate experience for women, men, and children that wanted the benefit of having great yet affordable products. Scented Serenity was blissful to me and I wanted to share it with my community.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The smooth part of the road was definitely the support of my friends. I have friends that own businesses and they encourage me to spend more time perfecting my craft. I’ve watched them leave professional careers to operate their businesses full time but I haven’t stepped out on faith to do it yet. I juggle two Management jobs while attending school to earn my Ph.D. As the orders started rolling in and I began shipping all over the US, I became overwhelmed.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Scented Serenity?
Scented Serenity was formed at the peak of the COVID pandemic. I make all-natural and handmade skincare and hair care products and soy candles. I am known for the attention to detail that I offer my customers. I listen to their concerns and craft their products accordingly. I am most proud that I do not mimic the work of others, instead, I research each and every detail to ensure top quality. I’m most excited about my acne care kit that is life-changing for those that have tried other store brand products without success.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Aretha Frierson of “It’s All About Balloons” deserves credit as being most supportive. I’m honored to call her a friend. She has encouraged me from the start to use my education and experience to invest in myself and my business. She and her husband stand by my products and she wants to see them on the shelves of major retailers. If I have not already expressed my sincere application for her unbiased support, I would like to do so now.
