Today we’d like to introduce you to Vincent and Katie Truong.
Hi Vincent and Katie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My family and I moved from Vietnam to Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2012. My first job was as a waiter at a restaurant, and my sister, Katie, was a nail technician. After a few years, my sister opened her nail salon, and I graduated from high school. I was uncertain about what I wanted to pursue after graduating, so I decided to take a year off from college to figure out what I wanted to do. In the meantime, I was working at my sister’s nail salon. Then I discovered that I had a passion for nails. Who would have thought I could become a professional nail technician? My sister and I knew that if we had the passion and were willing to work hard, we could achieve anything we set our minds to, and one of our proudest achievements was co-founding Élan Nail Bar. We are currently in progress for Élan’s second location, which will be open this coming summer.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, as part of a project, we purchased a small salon and expanded it to 2,500 square feet. The salon was built with most of our savings. When COVID-19 hit, it caused major delays in construction and financial stress. This forced us to delay our grand opening. Our amazing team helped the salon grow so much, which resulted in something much more rewarding in the end. Therefore, we want to thank every team member in our salon.

Elan Nail Bar strives to create an inviting and comfortable spa experience for every client. We provide our clients with herbal products, as well as nail care and spa services of the highest quality. We also strive to create a friendly working environment for our employees.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
The difficulties we had while building our salon and the progress that is being made every day are both of the reasons we are so proud. It makes me happy to see clients walking out of our salon feeling pleased with the service that we provide. We hope to expand Elan Nail Bar to various locations in the future.
