Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Baker.
Robyn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It started the day everything I had created for myself, ended.
I left southern California for the south. To say I was terrified was an understatement of the decade, but my husband had ordered, and we were moving. Turns out, I LOVE where we live, and it was the low country sunsets that really got their hooks in me. I enjoyed the change of pace. San Diego was beautiful, but my quality of life was seriously lacking.
I was not SAHM material – also turns out I am NOT a very skilled SAHM, and after losing my mind a few times, I decided I needed something. Anything. My brain was dying with daunting housework that never ended and crying babies.
It was February 2020, right before Covid shut us all down. I was turning 38. I was a mess. Not just a little mess, a big mess! Turning 40 like this? I wasn’t physically healthy, or mentally healthy.
I decided to change my skincare and makeup, you know when you go buy everything and hope that it actually decides to work, but usually doesn’t and ends up in the product graveyard under the sink? Well, it turns out these products worked brilliantly and I was going to change everything. Starting with my skincare, and makeup, and loving the results, I decided – why stop here? Making toxin-free #safeswaps was making me feel a lot better.
I thought, why not keep going? After all, I had nothing to lose, and everything to gain.
I funded my business by selling things I no longer used around the house on Facebook Marketplace. I had once got ready for a job interview in a Taco Bell bathroom, and I once sold cheap perfume from a parking lot in Las Vegas, there was no shame in my survival game.
Working hard will outwork talent every single time, and that is what I know. Work hard, and get what you want out of life. When everyone was sleeping, I was working 70-hour work weeks, and spending every penny I owned to send out samples. My business ended up meeting huge milestones in even a short 2-3 months and even more in my first 5-6 months. What can I say, my skin transformation was speaking volumes and everyone wanted to try it. They were all so shocked by the education & awareness I was bringing them by simply reading their product labels.
At our Leadership retreat in July of 2020 (yes, in the middle of it all!) our field trainer asked me to say out loud “I am worthy” – wouldn’t you believe it? I couldn’t even say it.
Who reaches the top of their business, quickly, makes a ton of money, and doesn’t even think they deserve it? I did. I cried like a baby, I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. Then, one of my business coaches introduced mindset to me, and WOW was mine a disaster.
I read 12 personal development books, I did visualization meditations for over 9 months straight as well as weekly and monthly therapy visits including EMDR – which, if you haven’t looked into – you should.
Once my coach brought up mindset, the rest was history. My therapist compared me to someone who underwent extensive physical changes in a year, but instead, it was in my mind. A work that was the most life challenging, and rewarding journey of my life.
I learned how to market myself on social media, and shared my authentic story, my truth. However uncomfortable it was. I failed all the way up. This evolved into healing. People could relate to this, and we still learn every day. Pain is what makes you a person.
Momentum was my best friend, and you could say it has stayed with me. Even to this day, I now work on inspiration – for the good, and bad!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A smooth road? What is that? Everyone has a hard road, and mine was no exception. I grew up with a dysfunctional, addicted parent, and I had my share of traumas. Rating high on the ACES scale, and a textbook example of what happens when our innocence is stolen from us too early. I created survival habits that later in life turned to the inability to set a boundary, perfectionism, people-pleasing, disassociating, anxiety, depression, addictive behaviors, and so much more. The issue is, I thought all of this was “normal” so I never thought anything of my hang-ups in life, after all, “it can always be worse”
How many times do we hear – “I had even less and look at me, I turned out ok.” Did you? Did you, though?
The loneliness of COVID, and virtual learning my daughter, was grueling. My mental health got even worse, and so did things at home. The darkest moment was when I wanted to take my life. I will never forget the emptiness of that feeling. At 3am, I did not know my name, that I had any children or was able to form words. I had been triggered into something that would only come to light months later.
I was very sick. I learned a lot about my mental health or lack thereof. I learned about the mind, and how it works through trauma, adversity, and how important it is to give ourselves the proper tools to work through life as it comes.
How important it is to break our own unhealthy cycles.
Also, learning about hormonal health, and how it plays a key role in our lives.
Mind, body, and soul was not just a figure of speech anymore.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Beauty Clean is where you can find education about your product and toxin-free #safeswaps. What we don’t realize about our household, and beauty products is how many chemicals can be found in them. I read your labels, and offer education as well as safe products for you to choose from. You are empowered to make your own decisions. Our goal is to not only make choices that are better for ourselves, but better for our planet.
Holistic Happines specializes in life coaching with an emphasis on human design, and the law of attraction. I am here to help you make healthy lifestyle changes from the inside, and out. Your subconscious is running the show, and I am here to help you teach it to take a seat.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck? No, there was no luck. I have learned how to create my own luck. That has been the biggest game-changer of it all. What started as a desire to earn money for a down payment on a car turned into a whole life transformation. What started as a desire to earn income, turned into a desire to help others break their own chains. I became very spiritual, you could say I was always more spiritual, but I never knew what to do with it all. I learned and healed by way of Reiki, crystals, and a positive mindset. I’m now Law of Attraction Certified and a completely different person, but this was not by luck. This was by creating an opportunity for myself, then repeating that over and over. There is no end. This is not a sprint, this is a cross-country jog, and every day holds a new promise of opportunity.
I believe that energy is everything and everything is energy, the key is to make it work with you, not against you. The flow of the abundance that is all around us.
Long story short: as soon as I was aware of the unhealthy role I played in my own life, the day I confronted myself, is the day I stepped into the process of changing everything. I decided that I could be the victor and not the victim, I decided that the best part is the actual challenge itself, and I finally get to use the talents I never knew I had. I couldn’t hear them over my survival.
I encourage everyone to get out of their own way and do something they have never done before. Embrace the unknown, and change what is possible for YOU.
