Exploring Life & Business with Rahisha Lilly of More Money Matters Enterprises

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rahisha Lilly.

Hi Rahisha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started in Finance while working at Columbia University in NYC. I was employed there for 11 1/2 years as a Finance Analyst. It is there I gained a passion for the finance industry and decided to pursue my Master’s Degree in Financial Services. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. Once I discovered my passion for numbers I decided to learn to prepare my own tax return. Before I knew it I was preparing for friends and family and maximizing their refunds. I quickly learned this was a pretty lucrative industry and decided to turn it into a business. It was 2003 when I birth “More Money Matters”. I started as a Sole Proprietor and incorporated the business in 2014.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I found that being an entrepreneur is not easy, it is in fact hard work. Sometimes harder than having a job. However, I learned “when you do what you love, it never feels like work”.

I have experienced ups and downs in business but the success comes in being consistent and remaining innovative.

As you know, we’re big fans of More Money Matters Enterprises. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
More Money Matters is a finance company that works with businesses and individuals. We offer payroll, booking keeping and tax preparation services.

We are known for working with small businesses and teaching them how to move from being “mom and pop” entities and evolve on the road to becoming a household name.

We teach entrepreneur’s the importance of separating themselves from their business entity. (many small businesses operate inclusively. ex. paying personal expenses from the business account, not paying themselves a salary, ultimately landing them in a tough spot at tax time when it is time to report income and expenses).

We provide information on how to build business credit, How to funnel profits (legally) and avoid huge tax liabilities at year-end.

What we are promoting the most is the opportunity for individuals interested in starting a tax business to partner with us and allow us to mentor them and ultimately give them the option to franchise with us or go off and start their own tax preparation business.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory would have to be family gatherings. I have a rather large family and we would get together frequently. In fact, we still do…. Sunday dinner with my immediate family is a party of at least 25-30 people.
