Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Grimmage.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
Black Charleston was founded by Miranda Grimmage 3 years ago on social sites Instagram and TikTok social sites after noticing a need to provide visibility to local black-owned businesses in Charleston, SC, and surrounding areas. We now have over 21k+ loyal followers who support the businesses we feature, connecting them to a community looking to support black-owned businesses and professionals. Black Charleston is operated by a husband and wife team, Kenyatta Grimmage & Miranda Grimmage. We thrive from making an impact in our community by increasing community support for businesses represented on our platform. We also showcase Black Experiences throughout the city and provide collaboration opportunities with local businesses to bring more awareness to their business. Black Charleston has branched out into the apparel industry by offering t-shirts with our classic logo and custom design meant to unify our community of black professionals.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building the brand of Black Charleston has not been easy. The name itself is firm and may only sometimes be accepted. Once people realize our purpose and see the impact, they will understand. As a content creator, building trust among your followers and social community takes patience. Like anything you set your mind to, you must be consistent and stay true to your mission.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
While growing the brand of Black Charleston, we quickly recognized that we needed a nonprofit to continue the work within our community. Black Charleston supporters wanted more. My identical twin sister, Elana Pea, founded Black Charleston Professionals. Black Charleston Professionals is a member-based organization with many offerings, including networking opportunities, business education & resources through partnerships with local organizations & BCP members, access to their business to BCP’s black-owned business directory, and exclusive access with discounts to community events.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My success comes from staying humble and helping others. I believe in God and know that Black Charleston is not about me but a collective. Like-minded Black professionals in different industries come together to build a strong community while helping the following local Black-owned businesses thrive.
