Exploring Life & Business with Latoya Robinson of The Healthier Liz Wellness and Fitness Gym

Today we’d like to introduce you to Latoya Robinson.

Latoya Robinson

Hi Latoya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
My start in health and wellness came from the loss of my mother, Elizabeth Stewart, to diabetic complications. Two weeks following her passing, my physician said to me I would need to start a diabetic medication as a result of my previous blood work. I asked my doctor what my alternative was because I didn’t want to take a medication route. Her response was to exercise and change your diet. Fast-forward, while grieving and praying, I heard from the Lord, “Buy the gym.” I inquired with the previous gym owner because he was looking to sell, and now we have “The Healthier Liz,” named after my mom, as a daily reminder to me to choose health over my alternative.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a challenging road! Many obstacles are business-related: learning the financials, having enough funds to employ people, and consistent gym membership payments. The list could continue, but the most significant challenge has been maintaining my health while juggling all the business responsibilities.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My gym is a community gym with paid memberships. I have a partnering business focusing on nutrition (Victory Nutrition) and a partnering nonprofit exploring ways to affordably educate people on health and wellness in fitness and nutrition. I am most proud of the people who can afford my options and their successes. I want people to know that they don’t have to have a background in eating healthy or exercising daily. It can be learned, and with a community, it can be maintained.

How do you think about luck?
I do not believe in luck! I believe in blessings, and the blessing in my story is how I came to own my gym. I did not have the funds to start this journey, but it was aligned due to my obedience to God’s instructions to “Buy the Gym.” It was His grace and mercy that paved my way to ownership.
