Today we’d like to introduce you to Laney Beall.
Hi Laney, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am Laney Beall, also known as the Queen Bee Waxer! I have been a licensed esthetician for seven years; I have always had a passion for the beauty industry! I became a licensed Esthetician in Greenville, South Carolina, where I got my start in a well-known waxing business called Ultra Skin. I quickly developed a passion for full-body waxing services. After working there for about a year, I was ready to try my hand at facials. I was hired by Hand and Stone Massage and Facial Spa and received some amazing training, but my heart missed waxing! After two years of holding my license, I moved to Columbia, South Carolina, where I was ready to get back into full-body waxing! I was quickly hired as a wax specialist at European Wax Center. That is where my career took off! I worked my way up to the highest waxing level there, and after 3 years, I was given leadership responsibilities. I was made lead wax specialist and a wax specialist trainer. I loved my time there and the connections that I made. I am truly grateful for all the time they took to mold me into the confident wax specialist I am today! After working there for four years, it was time for me to move on. I had met my amazing fiancé, and we were ready to start building a life together: I knew it was time for me to step out on my own.
January 10, 2022, I opened the door to my waxing studio, and Bees Knees Beauty Studio was born! After 6 years of being licensed, it was important to me to create a place where people felt relaxed, safe, respected and heard. Too often have I heard horror stories from my clients about bad waxing experiences! It’s still shocking to me when I hear from clients, “my specialist never told me that, or I didn’t know that wasn’t good for my skin.” I must provide proper aftercare plans with detailed instructions after every service, so they never feel lost and know exactly how to take care of their skin. I am best known for my Brazilian waxes and the breathing techniques I incorporate into my services to help make the experience less painful. I’ve learned the more relaxed your mind is, the more relaxed your body is; tensing your body will most definitely make the service more uncomfortable. While this can be difficult while getting your private places waxed, I find that talking my client through the process so they never feel surprised or unsure of what will happen next helps them achieve that calm state of mind. I use plant-based, vegan-friendly products in my treatment room. I have found that vegan products are held to a higher efficacy standard, yielding better products. I use both hard and soft wax in my studio. I prefer hard wax for facial and intimate waxing services, while soft wax is better suited for full-body services, such as legs and full-backs. This ensures you receive the results for the service.
I am looking forward to 2023, as I expanded my studio in under a year! I will also compete in The Skin Gamed in Atlanta, Georgia, in March of 2023 for the title Waxer of the Year! The Skin Games is an international skincare competition and award show that looks to celebrate skincare and beauty professionals all over the world. I am excited to be a part of this and have already made some amazing connections that have helped expand my service menu! None of this would have been possible without all my clients, family, and friends. So come check me out and see what the buzz is all about! I am so blessed and thankful for all the support I have received.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were some challenges along the way. I didn’t always know that I wanted to be a licensed aesthetician, so I spent time trying to go to school first for a physical therapy assistant program. I realized how unbelievably competitive that field was and how I didn’t have the patience to wait that long for my career. I also went to hair school to become a cosmetologist and realized I detested cutting hair, so I quickly dropped out! I was also let go from my first two jobs in the aesthetics field, which was highly discouraging at the time but later helped me realize it was a great opportunity for personal growth and professional growth.
We’ve been impressed with Bees Knees Beauty Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
From the moment you walk in the door, my focus is on your complete relaxation. I will address any questions and concerns regarding your skincare routine and promise to coach you through the service. No matter what age or gender you are. I promise to provide you with a service that will leave you happy, educated, and eager to tell your friends about your experience! My product line is derived from anti-inflammatory oils that contain anti-microbial properties to help calm inflammation and prevent bacteria build-up in between services. I specialize in hard and soft wax for all the services I provide. I use Berodin wax, one of the best luxury hard and soft waxes. It was developed to reduce discomfort during the service and make the service as quick and painless as possible. It is perfect for grabbing any hair type and works with any skin type! It has a low melting point to keep the temperature of the wax comfortable for even the most intimate of regions. I also use Wild honey from the honeycomb wax company. Wild honey brings the wildflower garden to you as a European film hard wax. This formula is perfect for all body types, skin types, and hair types. It easily pulls the finest hair and tackles the toughest, coarsest hair; I also specialize in a nonlaser permanent hair removal method called Epilfree. It is a revolutionary and natural hair removal solution that combines the simplicity of use with exceptional results equal to laser but without limitations. It is an effective natural solution for unwanted hair that works with waxing. Epilfree can be used on every Fitzpatrick and over tattoos, with no damage or chance of hyperpigmentation.
After Covid, there is no denying that customer service has taken an impact negatively. Too often, my clients tell me about their frustrations with companies that forget about them or leave them on hold for too long. I saw how important it was to bring care, compassion, and empathy back into the business. I pride myself on not just giving service to somebody but genuinely connecting and building that relationship with your clients. My clients have truly become like family!
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions, take the initiative, and be genuine to those around you. It goes along way in finding a mentor! I am an extremely introverted and shy person, so talking to people and asking for help can be difficult for me, but I have learned if you stay active and relevant in your local community, whether it’s running a food drive at your business, or dropping your cards off at your local coffee shops just not being afraid you’ll be amazed the connections you make
