Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Virgo.
Hi Joseph, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Bridgeport, CT, with four siblings in a hardworking immigrant family from Jamaica. My mom worked tirelessly as a nurse aide, and watching her dedication taught me the value of perseverance, service, and showing up for others. That example shaped both my character and my career.
In 2005, I began my journey in the insurance industry as an insurance producer. From the start, I realized insurance isn’t just about policies—it’s about protecting families and being there for them during life’s biggest milestones and unexpected moments. That passion for serving people led me to where I am today.
Now, I’m proud to serve as a State Farm agent in Winnsboro, SC. My bilingual team and I provide straightforward guidance and dependable support, offering Auto, Home, Renters, and Motorcycle Insurance to customers across South Carolina and North Carolina. We focus on building lasting relationships and being a Good Neighbor our community can count on through every stage of life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like many journeys, mine has come with its share of challenges.
Starting out in 2005 as an insurance producer, I had to build everything from the ground up—my knowledge, my confidence, and my client base. Insurance is a relationship business, and earning people’s trust takes time, consistency, and resilience. There were moments of doubt early on, especially when deals didn’t close or when I had to navigate the competitive nature of the industry.
Transitioning into business ownership brought a new level of responsibility. Leading a team, managing operations, and making decisions that affect both customers and employees can be challenging. There were long days, tough conversations, and lessons learned through experience. Building a reputation in the community and maintaining high standards year after year requires discipline and persistence.
But those challenges shaped me. Growing up in a hardworking immigrant family, I learned early on that obstacles are part of the process. Each struggle strengthened my leadership, deepened my commitment to service, and reinforced why I do what I do—helping families protect what matters most and being someone my community can rely on.
We’ve been impressed with Joe Virgo State Farm Insurance, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At my State Farm agency in Winnsboro, what truly sets us apart is our commitment to community and relationships. Beyond providing insurance and financial services, we focus on being present and engaged where it matters most.
We’re very active in local schools and regularly participate in and sponsor community events throughout the year. Supporting youth programs, educational initiatives, and local gatherings is important to us because we believe a strong business should help strengthen the community around it.
I’m most proud that our brand is known for being approachable, dependable, and community-driven. We strive to make every interaction professional, clear, and centered on the customer’s needs. More than anything, I want people to know that we’re not just here to offer services—we’re here to show up, give back, and make a positive impact locally.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The quality I feel has been most important to my success is consistency.
Success in this business isn’t built overnight—it’s earned day by day. Consistently showing up for my customers, my team, and my community has made all the difference. Whether it’s following through on a promise, being available during a difficult claim, or continuing to grow and adapt as a leader, staying steady and dependable builds trust over time.
Consistency also reflects discipline. From the way we serve customers in the office to how we show up at local schools and community events, I believe people value knowing what they can expect from you. When you combine consistency with genuine care for others, it creates lasting relationships—and that’s ultimately what has fueled my success.
