Today we’d like to introduce you to James Antezana.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born in Panama, to Bolivian parents, at a time when life was already in motion—my father serving in the military, my mother carrying both strength and grace far beyond her years. My story has never belonged to just one place. It has been shaped across countries, cultures, and moments of both quiet reflection and profound challenge.
From an early age, I carried a sense that I was meant to build, to create, and to heal. That instinct led me into medicine, and eventually into vascular surgery—a field where precision meets purpose, and where every intervention has the potential to restore not just circulation, but dignity and life itself.
Over the years, I’ve evolved from a student of science into a surgeon, an entrepreneur, and a visionary. I founded South Charlotte General & Vascular Surgery with the intention of redefining how advanced care is delivered—bringing cutting-edge, minimally invasive treatments into a setting that prioritizes both excellence and the human experience.
But beyond the titles and achievements, my journey has been deeply personal. It has been about identity, resilience, and the constant pursuit of alignment between the mind, the body, and the soul. I’ve come to understand that success is not simply measured by what we build externally, but by how we grow internally.
Today, I stand at the intersection of medicine, innovation, and purpose—continuing to expand what is possible, not only for my patients, but for the future of how we approach health, longevity, and human potential.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has never been a smooth road—and I don’t believe it is meant to be.
My journey has been shaped by constant transitions, from country to country, culture to culture, always adapting, always rebuilding a sense of identity. Early on, I learned what it feels like to be different—to stand out, sometimes without fully understanding why. That alone teaches you resilience.
Professionally, the path to becoming a surgeon is demanding by design, but what people often don’t see are the layers beneath it—the sacrifices, the long hours, the emotional weight of responsibility, and the pressure to perform at the highest level when lives quite literally depend on you.
Entrepreneurship brought a different kind of challenge. Building a practice from the ground up requires vision, but also the willingness to take risks, to face uncertainty, and at times, to stand alone in decisions that others may not yet understand. There are moments where the burden is heavy—not just financially, but mentally and spiritually.
And then there are the personal challenges—the ones that shape you the most. Relationships, loss, moments of doubt… those are the experiences that test your foundation and force you to look inward.
But I’ve come to see that obstacles are not interruptions—they are invitations. They refine you. They clarify your purpose. Every challenge I’ve faced has ultimately strengthened my conviction, deepened my perspective, and aligned me more closely with who I am meant to become.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
South Charlotte General & Vascular Surgery was built with a clear intention: to redefine how advanced vascular care is delivered.
We specialize in minimally invasive, endovascular procedures that treat complex arterial and venous disease—particularly peripheral arterial disease, limb-threatening ischemia, venous compression syndromes, and advanced revascularization. Our focus is not just on treating disease, but on preserving limbs, restoring quality of life, and offering solutions where many patients have been told there are none.
What sets us apart is our environment and our philosophy. We operate within a state-of-the-art, AAAHC-accredited office-based lab, allowing us to deliver hospital-level care in a more efficient, patient-centered setting. This model gives us the ability to innovate, to move quickly, and to provide highly personalized care without the constraints of traditional systems.
We are also deeply committed to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in vascular medicine. From advanced imaging and intravascular technologies to complex multi-level interventions performed through minimally invasive approaches—including pedal access—we are constantly evolving our techniques to improve outcomes and reduce recovery times.
But beyond the technology, what I am most proud of is the culture we’ve built. Every patient who walks through our doors is treated with intention, respect, and a genuine commitment to their well-being. We don’t see cases—we see people, and we take ownership of their journey.
Ultimately, our brand represents precision, innovation, and purpose. We are not just treating vascular disease—we are redefining the future of how it is cared
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I believe that no journey like this is ever accomplished alone.
First and foremost, my faith has been a constant anchor. It has guided my decisions, grounded me in moments of uncertainty, and reminded me that purpose is something to be aligned with—not forced. My beliefs have given me clarity when the path was not always obvious.
My family has also been an essential foundation. Their support, patience, and understanding—especially through the demands of medicine and entrepreneurship—have allowed me to continue moving forward, even during the most challenging seasons.
Equally important is my team. The staff at South Charlotte General & Vascular Surgery are not just employees—they are an extension of the mission. Their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to our patients are what truly bring the vision to life every day. A practice is only as strong as the people behind it, and I am fortunate to be surrounded by individuals who care deeply about what we do.
I’ve also been shaped by mentors, colleagues, and even patients—each one contributing in their own way. Patients, in particular, remind me daily why this work matters. Their trust is something I never take lightly.
At the end of the day, success is never individual—it is collective. And I carry that awareness with a great sense of gratitude.
