Exploring Life & Business with Hope Williams of Back to Roots Holistic Wellness & Birthkeeping

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hope Williams.

Hope Williams

Hi Hope, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
My name is Hope Desiree Williams, and I embrace a multifaceted identity, proudly wearing many hats: mom, college graduate, loctician, light worker entrepreneur, and, of course, Holistic Doula. I’ve felt a profound connection to my fellow WOMBman and their children from a young age. Biology has always fascinated me, and witnessing the miracles of the human body has been awe-inspiring. Initially, becoming a pediatrician would be the best way to fulfill my passion. I successfully earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology from Winthrop University. However, as I delved deeper into the truth of the American medical system, I realized it wasn’t aligned with my values. I knew I didn’t want to be indoctrinated into flawed practices within the system and that there were alternative ways for me to support people’s well-being without being a part of it. I deeply understand the significance of approaching wellness from a truly holistic perspective, one free from the influences of capitalism, racism, or robotic systematics. I needed to honor and restore the ancient and suppressed origins of wellness, embracing the concept of Sankofa – to go back and reclaim what was lost. Becoming a doula has proven to be a perfect amalgamation of my passions and brings me immense joy, fulfillment, and purpose. I feel pleased and honored to serve as a bridge between portals for mothers and their families, supporting them while fostering balance in mind, body, and spirit. My journey doesn’t end here; I aspire to go even further and explore paths toward becoming a midwife, naturopathic doctor, herbalist, and general holistic healer. By continuing to learn and grow within these fields, I aim to empower others and positively impact their lives while upholding holistic and compassionate care values. My mission is to contribute to the well-being of individuals, free from the constraints of a flawed system and guided by the wisdom of ancient traditions and natural healing practices.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has generally been a smooth road, as it is with things that are your calling. Still, there have been some obstacles along the way, such as funding for low-income families, building awareness for the field, marketing, and the struggles that come with being a single mother, namely funding and time management. Entrepreneurship, in general, is challenging, especially when starting with no basis or funding for training. Much of what I have learned came from a DIY venture and lots of research, dedication, hard work, and networking outside of being led by God at the forefront.

Thanks for sharing that. Could you tell us more about your business?
At Back to Roots, we specialize in providing holistic wellness support and birth-keeping services to our community and all those in need of community. A birth keeper is a birth worker who has experience in physiological birthing experiences, respects and understands birth, and aims to help women embrace their inner power during their rite of passage. We offer holistic, natural-based services dedicated to women’s wellness throughout their journey, from preconception to pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Our services are carefully designed to nurture and support women at every stage, promoting their overall well-being and empowering them to embrace this transformative experience with confidence and vitality. We are set apart from others by our reverence for nature’s wisdom. We are proud to help people reconnect with their roots, allowing them to feel whole again, supported on their journey, and connected to Sankofa: Go back and get it. Our services and offerings are always from the heart.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned has been to trust the process. Within this lesson comes patience, grace, and releasing expectations of perfectionism. Life is meant to teach you how to alchemize the energy of any situation; meaning do your best, make a choice, and learn from the choice. You are what you attract, and you always attract what you are or need, even if you don’t realize why you need it now. Another notable lesson is the power of community and networking. Being a part of something bigger than yourself is how you find your purpose. Lastly, Holding yourself accountable is vital but doesn’t have to be a punishment. You must love all parts of yourself and allow grace. Trust God, and you will be aligned where you need to be.
