Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Eldh.
Hi Emily, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was 16, I developed really challenging and confusing issues with Autoimmune.
My body was changing, I was lethargic, and everything felt out of my control. When I approached conventional medicine, credited doctors would tell me nothing was wrong with me. I knew otherwise and thankfully was supported by my mom who had an inkling to explore holistic & functional medical practices to help me.
It was here I was confronted with the idea that diet can impact your health greatly, leading me to become vegan & gluten-free. These changes lead me into altering recipes to match this lifestyle. I used baking as therapy, and somewhere along the line became obsessed with making banana chocolate chip mini muffins that used no dairy, animal products, or gluten.
Fast forward a few years, the pandemic hits, and I am home baking and cooking all of the time. I had just graduated from college, and all of the strange and mysterious ways that the world works, lead me to start a company based solely on these magical mini muffins, now called The Muffin Drop. We’ve been in business ever since!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The health challenges I have faced were some of the most difficult experiences to navigate in my life thus far. Anyone who has autoimmune knows that you always end up continuing to deal with them even when you feel very stable or comfortable.
They have taught me immensely though. They have taught me to really advocate for myself because truly no one else can fight for yourself as you can. They’ve helped me to become very intuitive with food, and to be very conscious of how I eat and experience food as a healing mechanism.
I am forever grateful for these struggles as they’ve led me to create the muffin drop.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Muffin Drop. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our company makes nutrient-dense, delicious how-are-these-vegan-and-gluten-free mini muffins. They’re addictive and almost every flavor is grain-free as well.
They are thoughtfully built, with each ingredient being something that I feel proud and comfortable including in its makeup.
I want the product to always reflect my values of conscious eating, and be inclusive for all of the people who feel left out of delicious food in this world! It’s 2022 and there’s simply no room left for non-tasty vegan, GF products!
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I am obsessed with Charleston.
I had to move all throughout my childhood and adolescence due to my parent’s jobs, and truly no place I’ve lived thus far has felt as inclusive or supportive as the Charleston community does.
People here want to see you win and they want to give you love. There’s also just the biggest small business community that makes being a part of it really inspiring. There’s so much love!
