Today we’d like to introduce you to Deah Waters.
Hi Deah; so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi! I’m Deah, and I am currently a business owner of Lucid Waters Doula and Baby Services LLC—& Code Red CPR Services LLC. with my Co-Owner, Sabrina Wolfe. I currently have a nonprofit organization called “The Rebirth Pregnancy Project.” I started this nonprofit about a year and a half ago, and the outpour of love and outreach received is phenomenal. So I know the question may be, “What is The Rebirth Pregnancy Project”? The Rebirth Pregnancy Project is a nonprofit organization aimed at teenage mothers and fathers still in high school trying to excel and graduate. We have weekly group meetings while school is in session, discussing topics such as finances, careers, college, parenting, bonding, and how to help yourself cope in situations you may not see a way out of. We provide lunch during our weekly meetings during lunchtime and have weekly, monthly, and yearly goals. We aim to see what can get accomplished within then and what may need to be improved on. I am so passionate about The Rebirth Pregnancy Project because I once was a lost teenage parent who didn’t have a lot of guidance and couldn’t see my way through my personal situation.
During these sessions, we practice team-building skills and hold these parents to a standard of responsibility. Offering them guidance in different areas, whether mock interviews for a job or communication skills with the other parent involved in the child’s life. We also offer supplies such as; diapers, wipes, cups, clothes, feminine hygiene products, socks, shoes, and any other necessities the parents may need for their adolescent or themselves. Since implementing this program, students have improved their grades and finished the school year with A’s & B’s. Having services such as tutoring or even encouragement of words is important because they know someone is in their corner rooting for them in a judgment-free zone.
I take so much pride and love in these young adults because I once was in their shoes. I want to be an example and a positive role model in my community by not just talking about it but showing acts of love, kindness, and gratitude from my heart. My favorite line to myself is, ” What do I want to be remembered as?” and “What impact did I leave on others’ lives?”
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This has and has not been a smooth road. The reason as to why I’m so 50/50 on it is because I also feel as if anything that you want, the road will not always be smooth, there will be challenges and bumps along the road, but it always leads to a smooth pathway in the end. The challenges I’ve faced along the way have brought more knowledgeable skills and made every moment a teaching moment for me now and in the future.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Rebirth Pregnancy Project?
The Rebirth Pregnancy Project is a nonprofit organization that caters to teenage mothers and fathers in high school, helping them direct their selves to graduation while also talking about topics such as; finances, co-parenting, skill building, career selections, or even the road of entrepreneurship. What I am most proud of brand-wise is that I am building and structuring a program that is much needed. I see that teen pregnancy is a topic that is not discussed and sometimes can be swept under the rug. The Rebirth Pregnancy Project is removing the rug that this topic is swept under and building up leaders, not statistics that society may label them as because they are more than that and will become more. As a community, although challenges are faced, we must be more open to uplifting and showing love in many ways.
