Hi Case, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
From the beginning, our goal has been to provide world-class service with sophisticated party buses in premier travel destinations. We launched Double Black in 2021, as the first party bus company in Jackson Hole. Large group transportation has always been difficult there, as it is in many tourism-fueled areas.
As we secured our footing in the Tetons, we began to set our sights on Charleston, another top travel destination in the country. Similar to Jackson Hole, Charleston is also extremely spread out and is constantly filled with travelers cutting loose, whether for a bachelor(ette) party, golf tournament or simply a night out on the town.
Starting in 2022, we now have some of our signature 25-passenger party buses in the Lowcountry and business has been going great. All of our vehicles were custom-built with surround-sound speakers, LED mood lighting, ice bars and wraparound seating.
We try to fill our client’s needs by offering hourly pricing but also offer roundtrip, half-day and full-day discounted packages. We’re also firm supporters of weekday warriors and offer unbelievable pricing Sunday through Thursday!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As most people know, the labor market has been incredibly tight throughout the nation these past few years, even more so in travel destinations. We’ve been able to tackle that issue by offering superior pay to all of our drivers and also allowing them to build their own schedules that work for them.
We also hire all of our drivers as W-2 employees rather than 1099 contractors. While most of the transportation industry uses loopholes to hire their employees as 1099 contractors to save money on their end, we believe it is essential to employ our drivers honestly with W-2s. Even though this costs more money, it helps us establish long lasting, symbiotic relationships with our drivers.
When we started Double Black, we found that none of the party buses on the market were built to the standards of elegant destinations like Jackson Hole and Charleston. Luckily, we found LGE Coachworks out in Pennsylvania, that helped us custom-build some of the nicest party buses in the nation.
We’ve been impressed with Double Black Transportation, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sometimes people don’t even know that they want or need a party bus for their transportation. The occasion doesn’t necessarily involve partying and when they hear “party bus’ their mind leads to stripper poles, sleazy faux leather and cigarette holes. At Double Black, our vehicles don’t have any of those. Instead, they are designed to be the most luxurious ride on the road, whether you’re partying or not. There are multiple TVs for entertainment, ultra-large windows for breathtaking views and wraparound seating that allows clients to find their perfect seating arrangement. There also happens to be a killer sound system and LED mood lighting if you decide you could dance a little.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
To treat our employees right and our clients in the front of our mind with every decision.
